Job Summary

Recreation Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Lead Custodian! This role supports the Custodian Supervisor by providing lead supervisory responsibilities and carrying out general custodial tasks. The Lead Custodian is a crucial role in maintaining the Recreation Center facility, and supporting an environment that promotes health and pride for the students. This role performs standard custodial and cleaning duties in Recreation Center buildings and supervises the day-time custodial staff in absence of the Custodial Supervisor.

CU Boulder Recreation Services is a welcoming, valued, campus resource that promotes healthy lifestyles through high-quality, accessible, facilities and experiences. This student-fee-funded unit features a student-led CUSG Recreation Board and a diverse team of professional experts to help meet evolving recreational needs and support student engagement and success. Recreation Services oversees the LEED Platinum main campus Student Rec Center, a building with over 300,000 square feet of recreation and fitness activity space, as well as a satellite recreation center at Williams Village, outdoor basketball courts, a challenge ropes course, and eight turf and grass fields around campus. Throughout these facilities, members of the CU community can engage with a variety of programs that include ice skating, indoor rock climbing, intramural and club sports, yoga, aquatics and so much more.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Supervision

  • Provides direction, training, performs inspections, assigns tasks and work review to the 1st shift custodian staff.
  • Organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work.
  • Provides input into selection decisions, performance evaluations, disciplinary matters, and other personnel decisions.
  • Provides direction, feedback, and guidance that will enable staff to perform their jobs at a high standard.
  • Trains staff in the proper use of custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports of work performed. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Administrative Functions

  • Assists the Custodian Supervisor with assigning daily/weekly/monthly tasks and follow up to make sure tasks are being completed.
  • Assists Custodian Supervisor with maintaining inventory and ordering supplies, materials and equipment when needed.

Cleaning Functions

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuum, and polishes floors.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.
  • Empties, cleans, and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
  • Washes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, furniture, and light fixtures.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms.
  • Restocks restroom supplies, closets, and carts, as necessary.
  • Reports the need for maintenance and repair.
  • Cleans and treat spots on carpets.
  • Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks doors to secure buildings.

What You Should Know

  • The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 4:00am - 12:30pm.

What We Require

  • One year of custodial experience.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all Recreation Center employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities.
  • Ability to plan, direct and schedule work of others.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to meet goals with tight time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone.
  • Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc.
  • May be trained in first aid certification/CPR and defibrillator training.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • At least one year experience with custodial or housekeeping in a recreational facility.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Experience leading staff, directing work of others and/or ordering supplies
  • Bilingual and bi-cultural skills.
  • Experience with floor machine and power custodial equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, if needed.
