Job Summary

The Office of Strategic Initiatives, within the Division of Academic Affairs, welcomes applications for a Learning Experience Designer. This is a full-time position that reports to the Program Manager in the Office of Strategic Initiatives. The Learning Experience Designer engages the front lines of educational change, working directly with faculty, students, technologies, and platform providers to design and produce creative, meaningful, and cutting-edge learning experiences especially, but not limited to, offerings in the MOOC arena. This position takes an integrative approach to design and implementation in a variety of educational applications and contexts, including MOOCs, online courses, and hybrid programs. This includes adapting and evolving existing course materials for online delivery as well as building next-generation learning experiences from the ground up, reimagining the student experience of 21st-century higher education every step of the way. This position designs end-to-end experiences, from ideation to iteration to analytics.

Who We Are

The Office of Strategic Initiatives is a unit in the Division of Academic Affairs tasked with designing next-generation learning experiences that engage the local and global University of Colorado Boulder community. Our mission is three-fold: inspire a reimagination of teaching and learning, expand access to high-quality learning experiences, and transform higher education for the 21st century. Our work spans innovative on-campus program development, MOOCs, scaled online courses, programs, and degrees, and designing new business and technical processes to support our academic vision.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Work directly with faculty as a pedagogical and instructional consultant to design and build student-centered courses, programs, and learning experiences for scaled, online, and hybrid educational applications.
  • Manage maintenance and iteration of existing courses and programs, engaging with student and stakeholder feedback, applying quality assurance methods for continuous improvement, and producing actionable improvement plans.
  • Research and implement established and emergent educational tools and technologies to (1) enhance learning and pedagogical strategy and (2) ensure transformational student learning outcomes.
  • Additional job duties as required, as this position will be flexible and responsive to emergent needs and responsibilities.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated salary range is $50,000-$55,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • Experience designing innovative online, distance, and/or on-campus academic programs at a college or university.
  • Experience working collaboratively in teams or small groups.
  • Experience designing and/or managing projects, including coordinating and meeting deadlines, and completion.

What You Will Need

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master's or higher degree from an accredited university, or a combination of undergraduate education and relevant professional experience.
  • Experience teaching online courses and at least two-years of teaching at an institution of higher education.
  • Experience creating courses on the Coursera platform.
  • Experience working with the Canvas LMS to create online courses, or systems like Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and/or implementing new educational tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, consulting on, and/or implementing creative pedagogical methods, approaches, or strategies.
  • Design and technology skills including web publication, graphic design and multimedia production, and basic HTML (or a healthy eagerness to learn!).
  • Drive and vision to advocate for thoughtful pedagogy and design in scaled, online, and hybrid learning environments.
