Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder seeks a collaborative and strategic individual to serve as the Literature and Humanities Librarian. The successful candidate will cultivate and sustain strong connections with students, faculty and staff, including consultation on research strategies, emerging digital scholarship methods as well as critical information practices. This will include regular environmental scans of the assigned department(s) and areas to identify emerging trends; participation on campus digital scholarship and curriculum groups; facilitation of awareness building and learning opportunities to support student and scholar activities through emerging methods, mediums, and tools.  
 
Through careful management of collection budgets, including collaborative purchases and gifts, the successful candidate will guide the growth and impact of the English and American Literature collection for the campus community. Collection activities will also include innovative learning outreach that aligns and unites the collections within literature and creative writing with complementary collections in social sciences, humanities, area studies, government documents, special collections, and digitization.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Responsibilities Include:
  • Serve as the liaison to the Department of English & Creative Writing, with possible other subject liaison opportunities depending upon interest, qualification, and departmental need.
  • Develop and provide tailored instruction to learners and scholars in constituent departments, utilizing inclusive teaching and learning practices. 
  • Collaborate with Humanities faculty and other library faculty and staff to achieve information literacy outcomes for undergraduate humanities majors.
  • Participate in building an inclusive campus environment. 
  • Organize and deliver programming of interest to constituent academic communities. 
  • Maintain awareness of critical and/or emerging technologies for research and teaching in assigned subject liaison fields to meet the evolving needs of faculty, students, and staff.
  • Provide consultations to students and faculty via multiple methods. 
  • Build and manage relationships with interdisciplinary centers, programs, and research institutes. 
  • Manage collections in assigned liaison areas, including selecting materials, building relationships with publishers and vendors, performing collection management duties, and participating in collaborative collection development decisions.
  • Identify funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals supporting programmatic needs.
  • Conduct regular environmental scans of assigned areas to identify emerging trends and needs.
  • Act as liaison and conduit between assigned departments and the Center for Research Data & Digital Scholarship and the Department for Open & Digital Scholarship Services.
  • Build awareness and learning opportunities to support student and scholar activities through emerging research methods, mediums, and tools.    
  • Provide instruction and research assistance for other areas in the Arts & Humanities as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff in other University Libraries’ departments through various committees and working groups.
  • Share responsibilities for providing information and general reference services in person and remotely.
  • Maintain a consistent record of significant contributions in the areas of research and/or scholarly activity and service.

What We Can Offer

The successful candidate will be appointed as full-time (12 month) tenure track faculty member. Rank will depend upon professional experience. Our starting salary of $65,000 is one of the highest in the ARL. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA administered retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.

What We Require

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent or relevant combination of professional library experience and terminal degree in related field
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for and cultivate an environment that supports diversity, respect, and inclusion
  • Understanding of digital humanities research related to the discipline of literature
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing highly responsive teaching and learning practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of the information needs of researchers studying topics in humanities, English & American literature, creative writing, and scholarship in the digital humanities
  • Knowledge of scholarly communication issues and trends within the arts & humanities
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to shifting needs and priorities of both the department and library constituents

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience participating in collection development in an academic or research library
  • Experience providing reference and/or instructional services related to humanities and/or area studies in an academic or research library environment
  • Degree in a related field (such as English literature, American literature, comparative literature, or other humanities field)
  • Working experience with digital humanities research tools and approaches related to the discipline of literature 
  • Experience developing innovative learning opportunities to enhance research and/or teaching 
  • Experience engaging in collaborative projects and programs at the local, regional, national, and/or international level
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising
