Job Summary

The Masters of the Environment (MENV) Graduate Program at CU Boulder encourages applications for a MENV Career & Professional Development Program Manager! This role manages career and professional development offerings for the MENV program which include developing and managing strategic partnerships with prospective employers, collaborating with faculty on the development of curricula, supervising a team of career coaches, the execution of professional workshops and events, and leading alumni communications and engagement. The Program Manager works closely with MENV students and alumni, as well as faculty, staff, external partners, and CU administrative offices and other campus units.
This position sits within the MENV program which is housed within the Environmental Studies Department and the College of Arts & Sciences (beginning July 1, 2024). The MENV program is an interdisciplinary professional graduate degree that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to address complex environmental challenges and prepares them to become sustainability leaders across a wide range of industries and sectors.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Professional Development 
  • Collaborate on the creation of professional development curricula and instruction components of the three-course Capstone Innovation Lab series.
  • Design and deliver a portfolio of professional workshops and collaborate with faculty to plan workshops with external workshop facilitators.
  • Curate professional development resources for students and alumni.
  • Track, synthesize, and report on key industry trends and stay up to date on professional development standard processes to inform MENV curriculum and programming.
Career Services 
  • Serve as the lead career coach providing one-on-one coaching sessions to students and alumni.
  • Design and develop a comprehensive suite of career services offerings and coaching standard methodologies.
  • Design and oversee virtual and in-person events to connect employers, students, and alumni with professional networks and job opportunities.
  • Oversee the design and distribution of the career oriented electronic communications and social media channels.
  • Manage relationships with external career services partners such as CareerShift and Parker Dewey.
Strategic Employer Partnerships 
  • Build and cultivate relationships with a wide range of organizations across sectors and industries to increase programmatic networks, develop capstone partnerships, and create recruitment pathways for students and alumni.
  • Provide prospective employers with key program insights and student profiles.
  • Continuously audit existing strategies and programming and identify new and innovative ways to connect with and engage prospective employers with current students and alumni.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with specialization leads, faculty, staff, and other team members to align program initiatives and meet broader MENV goals. 
  • Design content and administer in-person and virtual presentations to prospective partners to elevate the presence of the program and increase engagement opportunities. 
  • Host partnership events (in-person and remote) designed to bring together students, alumni, faculty, staff, prospective employers and other external partners.
Program Management
  • Manage career and professional development offerings to over 200+ MENV graduate students annually.
  • Manage an annual career and professional development budget of up to $50,000.
  • Train, manage, mentor and evaluate a team of 2-3 independent contractor career coaches and 1-2 graduate student assistants.
  • Find opportunities for improvement or efficiencies in recurring or daily functions or processes necessary for mission execution.
  • Develop and implement strategies meant to assist the program in meeting its critical goals and objectives in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Approve and allocate resources based on program priorities.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to programming, policies or procedures.
  • Lead and direct the work of other employees and consultants and has full authority for personnel decisions.
Alumni Services & Engagement 
  • Manage communications and engagement opportunities for MENV alumni.
  • Design, distribute, and analyze employment data surveys for all MENV graduated cohorts, and share key trends and highlights with program staff and faculty, and regularly update the website with relevant employment data content. 
  • Design and host a series of events for alumni.
  • Lead the design and distribution of the alumni newsletter on a quarterly basis.

What You Should Know

  • This position has a year-round hybrid work modality with a minimum of two days in the office each week. 
  • Occasional evening and weekends will be necessary. Schedule is flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend events and programming.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $73,120 annually.

What We Require

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in environmental, natural resources, energy, sustainability or a similar industry. Experience may also be in higher education working directly with undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Experience should include providing career coaching or advising to students or employees in a professional or higher education setting.

What You Will Need

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to quickly establish rapport with internal and external partners.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage priorities when working with multiple constituencies including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with a willingness to take an energetic and creative approach to identifying employment options that are available for students and alumni.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse range of partners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
