Job Summary

Wardenburg Health Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Medical Assistant II! This role provides comprehensive health care, education, and customer service including primary care, gynecological and transgender services, primarily to the student population. The role may include care of CU Boulder faculty, staff and their dependents and on urgent occasions, treatment to injured or ill University visitors. This position provides team-based support to providers and works to improve efficiency and productivity to Medical Services. This position assists the provider (Physician/APN) to aid in clinic flow, productivity, and continuity of care to patients and the CU Boulder community.

The Medical Clinic provides a wide range of health care services for students including: primary care for illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Pod Based Provider Support / Patient Care
  • Interview patient for primary complaint, acquire appropriate vital signs and document pertinent medical history in the Electronic Medical Record during the patient intake process, to include historical data collection of previous allergies, updating patients medication list, significant medical history, patient's family medical history and learning barriers. Charge and chart for all procedures, treatments and medications given. Implement provider's plan of treatment for patients of all ages, primarily late adolescent and early adulthood population. Assist in direct patient care procedures, give prescribed medications and immunizations. Call in prescriptions and complete prior authorizations as assigned. Apply appropriate size of orthopedic equipment and assist with the removal and application of casts as needed. Be familiar with the location of the crash cart and available to assist RN and Provider staff in a code situation as delegated. Be responsible for stocking exam and treatment rooms on a daily and as needed basis. This includes infection prevention and cleaning of rooms between patients. Perform POC tests on patients on a regular basis and document these tests in the EMR to reflect accurate charting and charging for any POC test being performed. Competency tests will be done once a year to keep aligned with CLIA regulations. 
EMR Documentation
  • Responsible for documenting and charging in the EMR all procedures, POC, medications and treatments given. Be responsible for charting and charging at the time of care. To keep in compliance with AAAHC, this role will randomly audit MA I charts 2 times per year.
Medical Assistant II
  • Maintain inventory for Medical Services which includes ordering and stocking materials and maintaining order in the stock room. Train and mentor new MA staff on new skills and EMR changes, in collaboration with Lead MA, and may assist with resolving issues to mitigate the impact on the daily pod workflow. Tackle additional projects as they arise and are assigned. 

What You Should Know

This is an in-person position with an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. This role is not expected to work University recognized holidays or evenings and will not be on call at any time.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $46,100 - $50,200 annually.

What We Require

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant.
  • BLS certificate (upon hire or can be acquired within three months of hire). 
  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

What You Will Need

  • Basic functional computer skills, including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and Windows based systems.
  • Good attention to detail and organization skills.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health career Association (NHA).
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National.
  • Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
