Wardenburg Health Center at CU Boulder encourages applications for a PRN Medical Assistant position on our beautiful campus in sunny Boulder, Colorado.  Medical Assistants deliver comprehensive health care, education and customer service primarily to the student population. This position provides team-based support to providers and improves efficiency and productivity to Medical Services. This position assists the provider (Physician/APN) to aide in clinic flow and continuity of care to patients and the CU Boulder community.

The PRN provides support to the clinic as intermittent changes in demand occur throughout the academic year and for periods of staffing shortage. There are no evening or weekend hours.

The Wardenburg Medical Clinic provides services for students including, but not limited to: treatment of illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provider Support, Patient Care, and Customer Service
  • Interview patient for primary complaint, obtain appropriate vital signs and detail pertinent medical history in the Electronic Medical Record during the patient intake process.
    • This includes historical data collection of previous allergies; updating patient’s medication list, significant medical history, and learning barriers.
  • Charge and chart for all procedures, treatments and medications.
  • Implement provider's plan of treatment for patients of all ages primarily late adolescent and early adulthood population. 
  • Assist in nurses and providers in direct patient care procedures, give prescribed medications and immunizations. 
  • Call in prescriptions and complete prior authorizations as assigned. 
  • Assist with front office duties on a rotating basis.
  • Stock the exam rooms, including infection prevention and cleaning of the rooms between patients.
Point of Care
  • Perform POC tests on patients on a regular basis. 
  • Proficiency tests will be done once a year to keep aligned with CLIA regulations.
  • Document tests in the EMR to reflect accurate charting and charging for any POC test being performed.
EMR Documentation
  • Document and charge the EMR of all procedures, POC, treatments and medications given. 
  • To keep in compliance with AAAHC, Medical Assistants will randomly audit charts 2 times per year.

What You Should Know

The PRN provides support to the clinic as intermittent changes in demand occur throughout the academic year and for periods of staffing shortage. There are no guaranteed hours or work schedule. There are no evening or weekend hours. This position is not eligible for health benefits.

Starting salary is $17.14 per hour ($17.50 if certified).

What We Require

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution by date of hire and eligibility to obtain Medical Assistant registration/certification within six months of hire.
  • BLS certificate (upon hire or can be obtained within three months of hire).

What You Will Need

  • The position requires basic functional computer skills (experience with Windows based systems).

  • Active Medical Assistant registration or certification such as:
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health career Association (NHA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT)
