Job Summary

Strategic Relations and Communications encourages applications for a Multimedia News Producer! This position oversees the CU Boulder broadcast studio. This includes the enforcing of policies, procedures and training program for studio operations, cultivation of relationships with TV bookers and producers to promote studio use, staffing remote media interviews, and tracking of studio use.

Strategic Relations and Communications facilitates an integrated approach to campus wide marketing and communications to encourage greater CU Boulder engagement, affinity and support. 

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Studio Management and Oversight
  • Serve as the technical lead on issues related to the CU Boulder broadcast studio.
  • Maintain and update processes and protocols for studio use based upon industry standards and best practices.
  • Staff live and taped interviews to ensure a high-quality shot and assets are received by media outlets in a timely manner.
  • Develop training materials and train studio users on best practices.
  • Coordinate scheduling and tracking of studio use.
  • Cultivate relationships with TV bookers by maintaining a list of active TV and radio bookers and regularly contacting them with media tip sheets and pitches.
  • Stay up-to-date on all the latest broadcast studio technology and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Serve as lead contact to broadcast vendors
  • With media relations manager, conduct bi-annual survey of metro area media outlets on the use of studio and CU Boulder broadcast assets and modify processes based upon the results.
Multimedia Production 
  • Produce and package multimedia news packages and assets, such as downloadable videos and audio clips for use by media on tight deadlines, and video packages and podcasts that amplify the reach high-impact research and boost awareness of CU Boulder experts. 
  • Work with campus partners and members of the media team to build a distribution plan for these assets with audience targets in mind. 
  • Facilitate and assist campus event live streaming.
Film requests 
  • Process film requests in coordination with campus legal and marketing teams, Athletics, colleges and campus departments.
  • Staff film crews on campus when appropriate. 
  • Develop film policy updates when needed and promote campus as film destination.
Broadcast Support 
  • Support technical, broadcast and media needs during significant campus events, such as State of the Campus, and stays up-to-date on emergency trainings.

What We Require

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of broadcast news experience or an equivalent combination of education and related broadcast work experience.

What You Will Need

  • Working knowledge of video editing systems, camera and audio equipment, and codecs.
  • Familiarity with broadcast news workflow and the news cycle.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working in a TV studio.
  • Relationships with and contacts for bookers and producers in U.S. media markets identified as strategic for the campus.
