Job Summary

The School of Education is encouraging applicants for the Pedagogy Specialist position! The DEI Dialogue Pedagogy Specialist will take responsibility for the development, implementation, and assessment of dialogue facilitation and dialogue facilitation training for the Staff DEI Dialogue programming. This role involves designing and developing curriculum and educational materials that incorporate critical dialogue pedagogy to address DEI topics and/or implement university partners’ DEI action plans. They will lead the training and mentoring of dialogue facilitators in dialogue pedagogy, providing the tools and skills needed to lead DEI dialogues effectively, and develop training modules and resources to support facilitators in implementing critical dialogue practices. This position will also manage assessment tool development and analysis for the Staff DEI Dialogue Program.

This position will be in charge of designing and implementing Staff DEI dialogue/deliberation training, and assessment. This will require working collaboratively with leadership to understand each unit’s culture and DEI goals to design DEI-centered dialogue/deliberation training and practice for the unit, and dialogically assess, propose, and implement policies, processes, and practices that promote intersectional equity, diversity, inclusion, and action. This programming advances the university’s efforts to foster an inclusive and equitable university culture by providing researched and designed dialogue experiences for staff, training in dialogue facilitation and DEI understanding for staff, and the collaborative design and implementation of intersectional equity initiatives. Programming is grounded in a dedication to advancing intersectional equity and draws on research areas such as critical dialogue, dialogue and deliberation, critical race theory, postcolonial/decolonial theory, learning sciences, community-based participatory research, and feminist theories.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Staff Dialogue Facilitation and DEI Pedagogy Lead

  • Lead Facilitator of dialogue/deliberation designer, and point person when CU Dialogues is asked to facilitate a DEI Dialogue, with assistance from the Strategic Dialogues Director as needed.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of dialogue/deliberation facilitation training, including all training materials, curricula, and resources to support ongoing learning and development of new and existing staff dialogue facilitators.
  • Co-design with unit-specific dialogue/deliberation facilitation training programming to align with unit DEI goals and inform action on strategic challenges.
  • Integrate assessment into facilitation training design, identifying mid and long-term outcomes, measures, and tools.
  • Review and integrate the latest research on dialogue and deliberation, dialogic pedagogy, intersectional equity, inclusion, and belonging into training materials.
  • Lead all aspects of the administration of facilitation trainings, including creating global and unit-specific calendars and timelines for consultations, development, and training.
  • Coordinate with Dialogues and unit administrators to schedule meetings.
  • Supporting the implementation of Staff DEI dialogues components (e.g.organizational dialogues, implementation groups, unit DEI action plans, and campus goals).
  • Assist the Strategic Dialogues Director with other Staff DEI Dialogue Programming by supporting the development and implementation of organizational plans for each unit by participating in meetings with unit leaders.
  • Reviewing drafts and providing edits.

Assessment Implementation

  • In consultation with the Strategic Dialogue Director, take the lead to develop assessment tools for the formative and summative assessments of Staff DEI Dialogue programming that are integrated with unit level and DEI dialogue assessment.
  • Track formative and summative assessment underway for Staff DEI Dialogue programming and provide regular updates on assessment results to the Strategic Dialogues Director, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement related to intersectional equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Co-lead, along with the Strategic Dialogues Director in writing assessment reports.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Dialogues Director and Classroom Dialogues Director to innovate and enhance assessment for CU Dialogues across programming areas through regular check-ins and sharing of assessment materials.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Dialogues Director to review and integrate the latest scholarship on research methods related to dialogues, intersectional equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Staff DEI Dialogues Program Leadership Support

  • Support Strategic Dialogues Director, to develop a larger framework for Staff DEI dialogues that are operationalized into organizational plans to implement programming for each unit by: participating in meetings with partner teams and leaders, reviewing drafts and providing edits, assisting in identifying materials/information, serving as a thought partner, and assisting with drafting and sending communications

Program Outreach Support

  • Provide program support for outreach to campus leaders to develop new Staff DEI Dialogue programming opportunities.
  • Help to establish and cultivate relationships with new units by co-developing promotional materials, outreaching to potential partners and conducting needs assessment, building relationships with campus leaders, tracking new partnership development, and drafting outreach resource materials (proposals, budgets, communications).
  • Providing on-campus, in person outreach and meeting support.

What You Should Know

  • This is a limited-term position extending for one year; commencing on the start date as listed on the official offer letter with the possibility of renewal.
  • The modality is primarily remote with a regular in-person work schedule.
  • Traditional business hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm, with some flexibility. 

What We Can Offer

Starting salary for this position is $85,000-$90,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Communication, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Background in some or all of the following research areas: critical dialogue, learning sciences, dialogue and deliberation, critical race theory, postcolonial/decolonial theory, community-based participatory research, and feminist theories.
  • 2+ years of directly related professional experience.
  • A proven record of successful development and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, programming, and/or practices.

  • Practice or research-based understanding of critical dialogue theory.
  • Practice-based experience of intergroup dialogue and reflective structured dialogue approaches.
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, preferably with staff members.
  • Experience and training in designing/analyzing mixed methods assessments.

  • Practice-based experience of organizational change, preferably in academic settings.
  • Research-based understanding in diversity, equity, and inclusion theory and practice.
  • Communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and proven ability to build relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, spotlighting impact.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and optimally in a team environment.
  • Understanding of legislation and regulations related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Masters Degree or PhD in Education, Communication, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing curriculum and teaching for staff, in workplace settings.
  • Mixed methods assessment experience.
