Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applicants for multiple Plumber I positions! These roles provide support for plumbing services by installing, removing, altering and repairing plumbing and drainage system components, as well as research equipment under the supervision of a journey level plumber. These positions also provide support for steam systems services and steam components under the supervision of a journey level pipe fitter.
Who We Are
Facilities Management is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
General Plumbing System Maintenance & Support:
- Provide general maintenance and support to the Pipe Shop. This support includes sewer and drain cleaning with the use of both jetting and sewer/drain cables, also know as rooter machines.
- Act as a first responder to high priority pipe-related work orders such as water leaks and sewer back-ups.
Assist in Steam Outages & Repairs:
- Assist with repairs and maintenance related to hydronic and steam systems. This will consist of assisting pipefitters with repair work orders that include, but are not limited to: cutting and threading pipe, draining hydronic systems, and making taps.
- Assist with building outages by performing actions such as draining and re-purging systems and ensuring the hydronic systems come back online.
Paperwork, Scheduling, & Other Duties:
- Responsible for completing material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure any material needed to support the position’s work load.
- Complete time cards daily. 15-minutes is provided at the beginning and/or end of each work day to complete time cards and closeout work orders.
- Provide detailed comments on closeout work orders and ensure any repair work orders or phases are created.
- As an essential services employee, responsible to respond to other duties as assigned on an “as needed” basis. This may also include alternative work schedules and/or responding to after-hours emergencies. It is necessary for these roles to provide a phone number to the Facilities Operations management team to be used as a means of contact for after hours calls.
- These positions are required to drive a University vehicle and to carry tools and materials.
- These positions follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as adhere to current operating procedures for assignments and use of equipment.
- Participates and completes all safety training; reports potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and procedural violations to the supervisor in a timely manner.
What You Should Know
- This position is eligible for our Facilities Management Employee Referral Program.
- This position’s anticipated schedule is Monday – Friday from 7:30am – 4:00 pm. May be required to work alternate shifts at the discretion of the work unit supervisor.
What We Can Offer
- The annual salary for this position is $58,740.

What We Require
- Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
- Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
- Two years of progressively responsible pipe and/or mechanical trades experience related to the work assignment.
- Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
What You Will Need
- The ability to communicate orally/in writing and to work independently and in a team setting.
- Basic digital literacy skills.
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Experience in an institutional setting.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations as they relate to plumbing/pipe fitting.
