Job Summary

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a one-year, full-time Post-Doctoral Psychology Fellow. Start date is August 5, 2019. We have three positions available, each focusing on clinical services, with different areas of concentration. Applicants may apply for more than one position. These positions are open only to candidates who have completed all of his/her doctoral graduate work in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and who need supervised psychotherapy experience to obtain licensure. Administrative supervision is provided by the Training Director. Clinical supervision is provided by an assigned licensed psychologist. This position does not have formal supervisory duties.

We provide a comprehensive range of mental health services in several on-campus locations. CAPS offers confidential mental health and psychiatric services for a variety of concerns such as academics, ADHD, anxiety, eating disorders, depression, relationships, substance use and more. Services include individual, couples, and group counseling, medication management, psychological testing, outreach and consultation, as well as professional training opportunities.  

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

All of the post-doctoral psychology fellows will assist with providing direct clinical services.  This includes direct psychotherapy services, performing individual and group psychotherapy and initial therapy assessment, case management, and crisis intervention.  
Our first position focuses on providing crisis care and triage. The position provides direct clinical services and campus community outreach to the general student population. This position is for a candidate who is interested in gaining skills in triage and crisis management. In this position, the candidate would provide 8 hours of walk-in coverage each week in addition to maintaining a generalist caseload. This position will work closely with the Crisis Walk-In Team Manager in learning about clinical systems and the development of clinical programs. This position is an excellent fit for a candidate who would like to pursue a career in university counseling center administration. 

Our second position focuses on working with diverse populations. This position provides direct clinical services to diverse student populations. In addition to therapeutic services, this position will provide opportunities to develop unique outreach programming to reach underserved groups on the CU Boulder campus. This position is for a candidate who possesses strong theoretical understanding of multicultural issues in mental health and has experience working with diverse student populations (e.g. race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc.). 

Our third position focuses on the CAPS Counselor-in-Residence program. The position provides direct clinical services and campus community outreach to the general student population. In addition, this position is for a candidate who is interested in working closely with the CAPS Counselor-in-Residence (CIR) program. The CIR Program places therapists directly into residence halls to address the mental health concerns of residents and to support Residence Life staff. This position will provide the opportunity to develop responsive, preventative mental health programming based on community needs, provide psychoeducation to Residence Life staff on mental health topics, and foster relationships with staff and residents.

What You Should Know

  • This position is a one-year appointment. 
  • Before the incumbent can see clients, he/she must be reviewed and determined to be eligible for clinical privileges as determined by the Medical Services Credentialing and Privileging Department.
  • BLS certificate within 3 months of hire.

What We Require

  • Completed doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology by start date. 
  • One year, full-time (or two year half-time) supervised internship experience delivering individual and group psychotherapy including initial evaluation, crisis intervention and clinical case management. 
  • One year experience in one or more of the following areas: providing clinical services, psychological assessment, and providing individual case consultation. 
  • Registered as a Psychologist Candidate with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies by start date if selected for the position. This is not required to apply.
  • Passage of the state of Colorado Mental Health Jurisprudence Examination by start date if selected for the position. This is not required to apply.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • APA accredited doctoral program and internship. 
  • One year experience providing clinical and/or outreach services to a racially diverse population or demonstrated knowledge and skill with racially diverse populations. 
  • One year experience providing clinical and/or outreach services to the LGBTQ+ population.
  • One year experience diagnosing, treating, and delivering services to a college student population. 
  • One year experience in one or more of the following areas: delivering programming to students in residence halls; providing individual case consultation to non-therapists; presenting mental health topics to non-therapists; teaching academic skills to individuals or groups. 
  • One year experience providing clinical and/or outreach services to international students or demonstrated knowledge and skill with international students. 
  • Strong desire to work in a university counseling center.
