Job Summary

The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), a joint institute between CU Boulder and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work with future fuels and energy systems engineering. Interested in being involved in groundbreaking research? Our mission is to expedite solutions that transform energy by advancing renewable energy science, engineering, and analysis through research, education, and industry partnerships. You will have full access to state-of-the-art laboratories and high-performance computing resources. Stretch your mind by working in tangent with Prof. Wilson Smith (Chemical and Biological Engineering) and Prof. Bri-Mathias Hodge (Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering) at this premier institution for research and education.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Design, simulation, and optimization of future energy systems, with an emphasis on carbon-free fuels for difficult to decarbonize industrial sectors. 
  • Design, operation, and control of carbon-free fuel production via various electrochemical processes, as well as its potential value in future power and transportation systems.

What We Require

  • A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in at least one major energy sector: liquid fuels, power systems, hydrogen, natural gas, transportation, etc., as evidenced by a strong publication record.
  • Experience and a strong interest in systems engineering approaches, and previous work in modeling, simulation, and optimization.

  • Interest and demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
