Job Summary

The Walczak group at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for full-time postdoctoral research fellowship positions, supported by NIH funding, to investigate molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. As an interdisciplinary laboratory, the Walczak group employs a diverse range of chemical, biophysical, and molecular biology tools to study aberrant cellular processes implicated in AD pathology. The successful candidate will join a thriving academic environment with ample opportunities for interaction and collaborative research with investigators focused on neurodegeneration. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conduct and lead independent research related to the project. Design, plan, and carry out experiments.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of experiments. Apply scientific knowledge, methodologies, and computational techniques for data analysis.
  • Prepare reports and papers for publication in refereed journals. Present research findings at internal meetings, national and international conferences, and seminars.
  • Contribute to writing proposals for research funding.
  • Stay updated with the latest scientific literature related to the research project and the broader field.
  • Collaborate with other members of the research team, including graduate students, lab technicians, and Principal Investigator(s). Also, develop collaborative relationships with other research groups when required.
  • Assist with lab management duties such as maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, ensuring lab safety protocols are followed.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced members of the lab, such as undergraduate and graduate students, on lab techniques, experiment design, and data analysis.
  • Participate in departmental activities, contribute to academic and scientific discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines in conducting research, especially when dealing with hazardous materials and/or biological samples.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range is $45,000-$65,000 annually.
  • Onboarding/relocation assistance may be available, however, if within a 12-month period you exercise your right to willfully terminate your employment with the University of Colorado, you hereby agree to reimburse the department for your relocation expenses.

What We Require

  • PhD in organic chemistry/synthesis, physical organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry or a related field.

  • Proficiency in organic synthesis and structure determination techniques.
  • Strong publication record demonstrating research excellence.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral) with strong scientific writing skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience with carbohydrate/peptide chemistry, or natural product total synthesis is a plus but not required.
