We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher on research projects involving eye tracking and machine learning. The job responsibilities of this position include conducting and publishing original research, co-leading research projects, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to the functioning of a research lab. The candidate will work with Dr. Sidney D’Mello and will play a co-leadership role in a vibrant research team encompassing students and researchers in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, and Psychology/Neuroscience. The position offers a unique postdoctoral training experience and unsurpassed publishing opportunities within multi-disciplinary, multi-institution, grant-funded projects. The postdoc will be encouraged to publish extensively, advance their own research program, develop advanced technical skills, strengthen their research portfolios, develop leadership skills, and gain expertise in authoring grant proposals.

The position is hosted and supported by the Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) at CU Boulder with an appointment in Computer Science if desired. Founded in 1968, the mission of ICS is to understand and enhance human cognition, learning, and development through the creation of interdisciplinary partnerships. ICS fosters rich scientific interchange across researchers from a broad range of subject areas including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Philosophy, and Education. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conducting and publishing research related to machine learning and eye tracking.
  • Mentoring and supporting students.
  • Contributing to the shared governance of the lab.

  • The anticipated start date is between September 2022 - January 2023 which is negotiable.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary is $55,000-75,000, commensurate with experience and education. The position is for 1-2 years, renewed annually pending a successful performance review.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to conduct independent research as evidenced by first author publications.

What You Will Need

  • Research experience with deep learning models (CNN/LSTM, etc.) in any domain.
  • Research experience in machine learning applied to eye gaze data.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Research experience at the intersection of eye tracking and one or more of the following areas: reading and discourse comprehension, scene/image/film processing, HCI applications, and related area.
  • Experience working with eye tracking hardware and software.
  • Advanced analytic skills (e.g., generalized linear mixed models, nonlinear time series analyses).
