Job Summary

The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) encourages applications for a Postdoctoral Associate! The successful candidate is expected to develop and operate an ion trap apparatus for studying trapped molecular ions with quantum-logic spectroscopy in a cryogenic experiment.

Who We Are

PREP is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder.  PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.
 
The particular group that needs a researcher is the Ion Storage Group under the Time and Frequency Division at NIST.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Design experimental protocols, troubleshoot the experimental setup, keep proper record for the investigation, report regularly research progress to the supervisors, collect and analyze experimental data, publish the results in peer-reviewed journal, and present the findings in scientific meetings.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this full-time position is $69,000 - $84,000 annually.

Onboarding/relocation assistance may be available, however, if within a 12-month period you exercise your right to willfully terminate your employment with the University of Colorado, you hereby agree to reimburse the department for your relocation expense.

What We Require

  • PhD in atomic, molecular, and optical physics or related fields; ITAR/export control restrictions.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working with molecular ions in linear radio-frequency ion traps and quantum coherent control of atomic and molecular ions. Extensive experience in designing and carrying out experimental work in a trapped-ion molecular physics laboratory.
