Job Summary
The Fox group is looking for a postdoc with expertise and/or interest in live cell imaging, protein biochemistry, and signaling networks. This project combines light-gated proteins with proteomics to examine the role of spatial organization—and, more generally, the function of spatial heterogeneity—in guiding the propagation of signals through biochemical reaction networks. The postdoc may focus on experimental or modeling work, or a blend of the two.
Who We Are
The Fox group seeks to understand—and exploit—the biophysical relationships and logic structures that allow biocatalytic networks to control complex cellular behaviors (e.g., metabolism, signal processing, and biological adaptation). We are broadly interested in (i) the kinetic and structural features of enzymes that allow them to work together to coordinate nonlinear processes (e.g., the assembly of polymeric products, biochemical reduction-oxidation reactions, and multi-color bioluminescence), (ii) the role of natural constraints on biomolecular diversity (e.g., a limited number of protein folds) in restricting the structures of biocatalytic networks and the evolutionary trajectories of biomolecules, and (iii) the logic structures that allow multi-enzyme systems to control non-Boolean operations on short timescales (i.e., biological computation). These broad interests underlie three research programs focused on important challenges in oleochemical production, cancer progression, and pharmaceutical development.
