JILA and Department of Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder encourage applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. The successful candidate will perform research at the interface between theoretical atomic, molecular and optical physics and condensed matter physics under the supervision of professors Ana Maria Rey, Victor Gurarie and Michael Hermele and in close collaboration with experimental groups at JILA and NIST.

In addition, the successful candidate will be a member of the Simons Collaboration on Ultra-Quantum Matter, a collaboration among theoretical physicists at 12 institutions including CU Boulder, which studies the characterization, classification and realization and probes of various forms of highly-entangled quantum matter.

Who We Are

The Boulder quantum condensed matter theory group and the atomic molecular and optical physics groups are part of the Department of Physics at the University of Colorado Boulder. Some of them are also part of JILA, a research institute administered jointly by NIST and the University of Colorado. They constitute a dynamic and collaborative group of researchers working on a range of topics at the frontiers of research. Faculty members of the group include Professors Victor Gurarie, Michael Hermele, Andrew Lucas, Rahul Nandkishore, Leo Radzihovsky, Ana Maria Rey, Murray Holland and John Bohn. They also collaborate closely with experimental groups at JILA and NIST working on ultracold atoms, polar molecules and trapped ions.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Perform research at the interface between theoretical condensed matter physics and atomic, molecular and optical physics under the supervision of relevant theory groups at JILA, CU and the Simons Collaboration on Ultra-Quantum Matter.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary for this full-time position is $65,000 annually.
  • This Postdoctoral Associate also receives a range of benefits through the University of Colorado.
  • Travel funds of $3,000 will be provided – these can be used either to support travel related to the candidates work at the University of Colorado, or for other reasonable research related expenses.
  • Moving expenses reimbursement amount will be given but up to $2,000.

What We Require

  • The candidate should have a PhD in atomic molecular physics or condensed matter theory or some closely related subdiscipline of physics by the time the position starts.

What You Will Need

  • Experience in analytical research at the interface between theoretical atomic, molecular and optical physics and condensed matter physics. Interest in collaboration with experimental groups.
