Job Summary

The Trustworthy Reasoning and Intelligence Group, in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position starting in Fall 2025 (start date negotiable). This position is partially supported by an NSF CAREER award and focuses on foundational research at the intersection of formal methods, automata theory, and reinforcement learning (RL). The goal is to advance the theoretical and algorithmic foundations of RL beyond the traditional framework of recursive Markov decision processes (RMDPs).

Who We Are

The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary group working on the development of safe, reliable, and explainable learning-enabled systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in foundational AI research with concrete applications to cyber-physical systems and decision-making under uncertainty.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in reinforcement learning, formal verification, and game theory.
  • Design and analyze novel models and algorithms for sequential decision-making beyond classical recursive Markov decision processes (RMDPs).
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation of scholarly publications and present research findings at leading conferences.
  • Mentor and support undergraduate and graduate students involved in the project.
  • Collaborate with faculty, research labs, and interdisciplinary teams within and beyond the university.

  • This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, renewable for up to two years based on performance and funding availability.
  • The position is based in Boulder, Colorado.
  • The anticipated start date is August 16, 2025, though a later start date may be negotiable.

The salary range for this position is $50,000–$65,000 per year.
