Job Summary
The Retention for Habitable Atmospheres in Planetary Systems (RHAPS) team is modeling atmospheric escape from a variety of different planets orbiting a variety of different stars. This position will contribute to the success of the RHAPS team by contributing modeling or accompanying data analysis that is relevant to the goals of RHAPS.
Who We Are
LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder employing over 700 scientists, engineers, support personnel, and students. The University of Colorado receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Conduct independent research pertaining to atmospheric escape from planets.
- Collaborate with the larger RHAPS science team.
- Attend bi-weekly RHAPS virtual team meetings, plus in-person team meetings.
- Participate in a regular local research group meeting at LASP.
- Present research results at conferences and in published journal articles.
What You Should Know
- There are no export control restrictions associated with this position.
- Onsite presence is required for at least three days per week.
What We Can Offer
- $80,000.00- $90,000.00.
- We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting.

- A PhD in a field related to RHAPS science such as Astronomy, Planetary Science, Space Physics, or Physics.
What You Will Need
- Experience studying some aspects of RHAPS science such as upper atmospheres, magnetospheres, atmospheric escape, or exoplanets.

- Enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
