Job Summary

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in quantitative/mathematical sustainability science, who will work under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Burgess. We seek a highly creative, motivated, and collaborative scholar, who will use theoretical and/or empirical approaches to address questions of global importance in sustainability science. The specific research topic is flexible, but may include applying dynamical systems modeling, game theory, agent-based modeling, and/or cutting-edge statistical approaches to provide conceptual advances to understanding coupled-human natural systems in general, and/or to support sustainability solutions in specific systems. Primary responsibilities include modeling and/or data analysis, writing peer-reviewed articles, developing grant proposals, and mentoring junior researchers. 

The initial appointment is for 12 months, with annual renewal thereafter based on performance and funding. Funding is currently available for an additional 12 months (24 months total). The start date is flexible, but no earlier than January 1, 2019, and no later than September 1, 2019.

What We Require

  • PhD in Environmental Sciences, Economics, Ecology/Biology, Mathematics, Psychology, or other relevant discipline.

What You Will Need

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills (e.g., mathematical, computational, and/or statistical).
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for writing peer-reviewed papers and grants.
  • Can contribute to a collaborative, collegial, and inclusive work environment.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Proficiency in R, Mathematica, or other programming language.
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
