Job Summary

CU Boulder encourages applications for a Preventative Maintenance Shop Mechanic! This position functions as an individual contributor within the Preventive Maintenance Shop performing inspections, minor repairs and preventive maintenance procedures on HVAC equipment, mechanical equipment and electrical rotating equipment.

Who We Are

Facilities Management is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Mechanical/Electrical Component Maintenance:

  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspection procedures (PMs) on mechanical equipment as directed by the PM Shop supervisor. These PMs are specific to each individual component including air compressors, air filters, chillers, cooling towers, condensers, cold rooms, coils, vacuum pumps, hydronic pumps, rotating equipment, furnaces, evaporative coolers and air conditioning units. This also includes seasonal startup/shut down of related equipment and minor repairs of all components and related attributes. Follow all safety protocols including all environmental hazards safety procedures, the use of personal protective equipment, the lock-out/tag out policy and the confined space policy.

Building Inspections & Audits:

  • Perform building surveys, compile information and documentation for mechanical systems; in both existing and newly acquired buildings on campus, which may include reviewing prints and specifications for projects and performing inspections as needed. Examples are deferred maintenance audits, information gathering for the formulation of preventive maintenance checks or routes, survey information such as condensers or coils, or the restructuring of existing PMs to meet the needs of the shop. May use Microsoft excel to organize the information and then store it on the shared server.

Paperwork, scheduling, and miscellaneous:

  • At the end of each day, close out all work orders and schedule work for the following day. When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are created. Complete material issues requests and purchase request to procure material needed. As an essential services employee the position is responsible to respond to other duties as assigned on an as needed basis. With all duties, the role is required to drive a University vehicle to carry tools and materials. Notify supervisor or lead worker of safety incidents, near misses and potential hazards. Maintain safe work practices, participate in department safety meetings and complete all assigned trainings.

  • The annual salary rate for this position is $58,740.
  • If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require

  • Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to two (2) years.
  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
