Job Summary

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for a Professional Assistant. This position is responsible for providing administrative and financial support to the laboratory. Job duties include the financial analysis of grants supporting the laboratory work, procurement of supplies for laboratory personnel, and administrative duties as directed by the Professor. The use of Microsoft tools, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Assistant to Professor
  • Research, manipulate and present data suitable for reports, presentations, proposals and publications using PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with laboratory scientists, academic and non-academic unit heads, and students as directed
  • Effectively handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact, timeliness, discretion, professionalism, and consideration
Grant Management/Proposal Support
  • Support the lab by collecting and archiving data documenting research and grants
  • Grant management including working with employees of external companies financing grants
  • Review financial statements by grant to ensure that the projects are within budget and the expenses are accurate using reporting options in PeopleSoft Finance software
  • Monitor funding for lab personnel to ensure they are being paid from the correct project using the University’s My Leave functions
Lab Management/Liaison
  • Manage and initiates purchases utilizing CU Marketplace and Concur.  Knowledge of University policies to ensure financial compliance
  • Manuscript editing for scientific articles including reviews and publications
  • Maintain lab web site including developing content with University’s tools
Operations Support
  • Assist with establishing meetings and events
  • Oversee the submission of expenses related to research funded travel 
  • This position will make travel arrangements and assist with reimbursements, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, university and departmental regulations and policies using Concur software

This is a part-time opportunity with a flexible schedule.

The starting salary range for this part-time opportunity is $27,500.00.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Professional experience with increasing responsibility may be substituted on a year for year basis
  • 1-3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience including experience with executive officer operations, or similar positions
  • Accounting experience

What You Will Need

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of professionals, administrators and constituent groups 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty; staff; students; school, campus and university administrators
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, flexibility and confidentiality in a variety of situations
  • Ability to work independently and with responsibility for initiating and completing tasks
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills with MS Office application, particularly with Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Prior experience working with state/public employment is preferred
  • Proficiency in MyCU options, including My Leave, Faculty Reporting and CU Data
  • Experience with Marketplace, Concur and other University systems
