Job Summary

The Department of Biochemistry seeks applications for a full-time Professional Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Professor Natalie Ahn.

The main task of the position is to investigate mechanisms of signal transduction leading to the regulation of protein kinases and cancer. The specific goal is to investigate enzymatic mechanisms for the regulation of MAP kinases, their impact on inhibitor design, and their contribution to drug resistance in cancer. Experimental methods include mass spectrometry-based proteomics, hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry, NMR, cDNA subcloning, protein purification and chromatography, mammalian cell culture and fluorescence microscopy.

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder is world-renowned for research and training in molecular biosciences and biomedicine. This laboratory is located in the beautiful Rocky Mountain city of Boulder, CO, and is housed in the state-of-the-art Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology building on East Campus.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Experimental Design, Data collection, Analysis

  • Research-level experimental design in biochemistry, biophysics, and cancer biology.
  • Analysis of protein conformational dynamics and inhibitor binding by hydrogen-exchange mass spectrometry and 2D-NMR, and/or analysis of cellular responses to protein kinase inhibitors and anticancer drugs using biochemical assays, quantitative proteomics, phosphoproteomics, transcriptome sequencing, and mammalian cell light microscopy.
  • Protein expression, purification, and biophysical characterization.
  • Quantitative data analysis, computational methods' development.
  • Scientific writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Collaborative interactions with research team members.

Lab Management

  • Supervision of student trainees.
  • Maintenance of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ordering of supplies and equipment.

What You Should Know

  • This position will function in a 40-hour work week Monday through Friday, with occasional time-sensitive research tasks needed on weekends.

The salary range for this full-time position is $35,568-$70,000 annually.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor's Degree in science from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience which includes a combination of:
  • Scientific training in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or related fields.

What You Will Need

  • Proficiency with experimental design and execution, quantitative analysis, and literature review is required.
  • Understanding of fundamental principles of biochemistry, chemistry and biology.
  • Good communication and teaching skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. level research experience.
  • Expertise in research level experimental design, data collection, and data analysis.
  • A commitment of two or more years.
