Job Summary

The Bachtell Lab encourages applications for a Professional Research Assistant!  This position will investigate the neurogenetics of opioid use disorder. The primary responsibilities will include conducting laboratory behavioral and biological experiments, managing/analyzing databases, maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining supply inventories, and supervising/training others in the laboratory.

Who We Are

The Bachtell Lab investigates substance abuse through the use of behavioral and molecular approaches utilizing rodent models. The lab is focused on how various factors contribute to the development of substance use disorder and how chronic drug use disrupts brain functioning. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Perform a wide variety of research laboratory tasks and experiments, keep detailed laboratory notebooks, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Keep inventory of supplies and supply ordering.
  • Supervise others in the lab.
  • Write research reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments. 
  • Develop a familiarity with current scientific literature and contribute to the advancement of the research studies. There may be opportunities to present your work at meetings and conferences.
  • Learn and/or develop new techniques when necessary.

What You Should Know

  • This position will require non-standard working hours including nights and weekends.
  • Anticipated start date of September 1, 2022. 
  • Individuals should expect to receive training on any skill deficiencies.
  • One-year commitment with the potential for a renewal of appointment.

The salary for this full-time position is $35,600 annually.

What We Require

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Physiology, Chemistry, Psychology or related discipline.

What You Will Need

  • Applicants should have laboratory experience.
  • Capability to work well independently and as a team.
  • Applicants must be reliable, independent, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Applicants must be committed to creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning/research environment.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Applicants with a specialization in neuroscience are preferred.
  • Experience with rodent surgical and/or behavioral procedures are preferred.
