Job Summary

The Sleep and Inflammation Laboratory of the Department of Integrative Physiology seeks an enthusiastic and conscientious research technician to join our team, which investigates interactions between sleep and the immune system. The successful candidate will contribute research effort to innovative projects that use pre-clinical models to elucidate mechanisms underlying alterations in sleep pertaining to traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative disease.

The individual in this position will conduct planned experiments in the areas of sleep and neuroinflammation and will be responsible for providing leadership to students and trainees within our research group and carrying out other activities central to the lab’s research.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Rodent handling and husbandry.
  • Biochemical assay for protein and nucleic acid assay quantitation.
  • Rodent manipulations including surgical procedures and drug administration.
  • Immunohistochemistry of brain tissue.
  • Fluorescence and light microscopy.
  • Statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Data collection, tracking and reporting of research results.
  • Maintenance and organization of all required logs and notebooks.

What You Should Know

  • The candidate will receive additional training in the application of neuroscience approaches, including but not limited to rodent behavior, biochemistry, and immunohistochemistry.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to commit 2+ years to the position.

This position is a full-time Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position, which will include full benefits as offered by the University of Colorado. Salary is $32,000 annually.

What We Require

  • B.A./B.S. in Physiology, Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, or Neuroscience or related field.
  • One year of laboratory experience working with rodents.

What You Will Need

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory skills and prior experience working with rodents in a research setting are required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently within a research lab.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Prior experience with or knowledge of the following skills:
    • Molecular neurobiology techniques.
    • Rodent handling and behavior.
    • Small animal surgery skills.
    • Light and Fluorescent Microscopy.
