The laboratory of Dr. Robert Garcea offers an environment for translational research related to vaccine development targeting viral infections. The goal of our work is to deliver vaccines in a form and at a cost that is reasonable for use in underdeveloped areas of the world. We have an immediate opening for a full-time professional research assistant in the area of vaccine development. Successful applicants will be highly motivated, with experience in molecular biology. The applicant should be a college graduate in the biological sciences or biochemistry and have experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques, familiarity with general lab practices, basic knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and the ability to work independently. This position requires excellent communication skills, both spoken and written. This position is fully in-person, with occasional remote work opportunities.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Planning and execution of experiments.
  • Collection, recording, analysis, and presentation of data.
  • Assistance in preparation of reports for publication in technical journals and presentations at professional field meetings/conferences.
  • This position has an anticipated start date of August 15th, 2022.

What We Can Offer

$35,000 – $50,000 annual salary. The final salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What We Require

  • BS/BA in biological sciences or biochemistry or related field
  • 1-3 years of post-undergraduate biology lab experience

What You Will Need

  • Basic lab technique experience (e.g. pipette, pH meter, scale, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

What We Would Like You To Have

  • One+ years experience in a research lab
  • Knowledge or proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
  • Chromatography (e.g. HPLC-SEC, FPLC)
  • Recombinant protein expression in E. coli
  • SDS-PAGE/immunoblotting
  • Sterile technique, including cell culture
  • Spray drying and/or lyophilization
  • Experience with data analysis software (GraphPad, OriginPro, JMP, etc.)
