Job Summary
The Department of Psychology at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Professional Research Assistant!
This job requires comfort and skill with working with rats, including at least a year of extensive experience with handling and working with adult rats, preferably including assessing behavior. In addition, this job entails a wide array of techniques (prefer at least some experience with a subset, rest will be trained as needed) which may include, but not be limited to: surgical preparation of rodents including stereotaxic surgery, intrathecal, systemic and intracerebral microinjections, transcardial perfusions, tissue collection and sectioning, various animal models for testing efficacy of therapeutics under study, immunohistochemistry, densitometry, and image collection and analyses; data entry and analyses, graphics; RT-PCR and various protein analyses; various rodent behavioral tasks; supply preparation for all of above and clean up; general lab upkeep and maintenance; literature searches; pilot data acquisition, etc.

Who We Are
We are neuroscience lab studying a variety of animal models to understand the neurocircuitry, neurochemistry, and mechanistic basis of behavior. We are translationally focused, aiming in multiple models to develop and study therapeutic approaches for various neuroinflammatory disorders.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- This job requires comfort and skill with working with rats, including at least a year of extensive experience with handling and working with adult rats, preferably including assessing behavior. The successful hire will master all of the techniques and procedure required for the successful undertaking and completion of the research studies. Training will be provided and increasing expertise expected with increasing experience. The skills required will shift with time as experiments and the procedures required to successfully perform them evolve. The list will also shift based on your expressed interests in various aspects of the research program.
What You Should Know
- Evening and/or weekend work will be required at times when necessary for the successful completion of studies, as some studies run 7 days a week including weekends and holidays.
- Training on research techniques you have not yet mastered.
- Opportunity for co-authorships on publications and conference presentations.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this position is $35,000-$45,000 annually.

What You Will Need

- No known allergies to rodents.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Capability to work excellently with the other members of the research team as well as working excellently on your own.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, looking for things that need doing in support of the research program as time permits (e.g. refilling reagents, helping with lab cleanliness/upkeep, putting in supply order requests to refill supplies getting low, etc.).
- In addition, we need someone who is detail oriented, totally trustworthy, and excellent and precise at repetitive tasks.
