Job Summary

The Bachtell Lab is seeking a full-time research assistant to investigate the neurogenetics of opioid use disorder.

Who We Are

Our primary mission is to study the neurobiology of drug addiction. Drug addiction is a serious mental illness that involves significant motivational disturbances resulting in a loss of behavioral control leading to destruction of the afflicted individual as well as their surrounding social networks. This disease affects millions of people and generates enormous social and economic costs to society. The focus of our research is to understand the mechanisms involved in drug craving and relapse.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The primary responsibilities will include conducting laboratory behavioral and biological experiments, managing/analyzing databases, maintaining laboratory equipment, maintaining supply inventories, and supervising/training others in the laboratory. Individuals will be expected to work independently and as part of a research team.

What You Should Know

Successful applicants will have experience in one or more of the following technical areas: animal behavioral procedures, RNA isolation and quantification in ex vivo tissue samples, and/or data management/analysis. A working knowledge of the field of neuroscience and relevant experience is preferred. Applicants must be reliable, independent, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Upon hire, the applicant will be expected to pass the University required examinations concerning safe handling of biological agents and chemicals, along with training in the ethical treatment of animals.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary for this position will be $45,000 per year.

What We Require

This position requires a Bachelors degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Physiology, Chemistry, Psychology or related discipline.
