Job Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences Academic Advising & Coaching (A&S-AAC) unit is encouraging applications for the Program Director of Academic Success Initiatives & Coaching position! This is a senior leadership position that partners closely with the Assistant Dean on the design, implementation, and evaluation of a series of dynamic, data-informed academic success initiatives, including the college’s early alert program initiatives and the A&S AAC’s student-facing communications and outreach strategy.

The Program Director is also responsible for directing the A&S Academic Coaching Program and has supervisory responsibility for three full-time professional academic coaches.

This position supports the retention, persistence, and academic success of all A&S undergraduates through coordination and project management on key academic success initiatives. The Program Director serves as a key member of the A&S AAC’s leadership team, and works closely with the Assistant Dean, Director of Advising Quality, Assistant/Associate Academic Advising Directors, Director of Academic Operations & Student Records, and various college and campus partners to provide thorough communication, coordination, and organization of relevant academic success initiatives.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Academic Success & Academic Coaching Program Leadership & Strategic Planning:
A&S AAC Unit Leadership & Project Management
  • Partner with the Assistant Dean and the Director of Advising Quality on the design, implementation, and assessment of the unit’s annual strategic plan
  • Coordinate annual assessment reporting processes for relevant academic success initiatives.
  • Engage in research, networking, and professional development to expand knowledge of standard methodologies in student academic success; develop means for sharing this knowledge with both new and continuing staff members within the unit.
  • In partnership with the Assistant Dean and Director of Advising Quality, support the leadership development of the unit’s leadership team.
  • Co-facilitate unit-level all-staff meetings.
A&S Academic Coaching Program Leadership:
  • Provide leadership for the A&S Academic Coaching Program, focusing on developing new and innovative initiatives and scaling strategies according to the unit and college's needs and goals.
  • Assess and respond to academic coaching data in regard to positive student outcomes, including persistence and graduation rates, and increased student academic success.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for department chairs and faculty regarding A&S Academic Coaching Program Services, including in-class workshop opportunities, and innovative departmental/program partnerships.
  • Conduct annual assessment planning and reporting procedures for the Academic Coaching Program.
  • Provide campus-level representation for the A&S Academic Coaching Program specifically, and the role of academic coaching broadly, in support of relevant college/campus academic success initiatives.
  • Create and implement A&S academic coaching marketing and outreach strategy, including but not limited to direct student marketing, faculty outreach, and academic coaching website maintenance.
Academic Success Initiatives & Student-facing Communications Leadership:
  • Informed by a commitment to academic success for all students, provide leadership to support the development and implementation of data-informed strategies to address academic success concerns and gaps.
  • In partnership with the Assistant Dean, provide leadership and management of the unit’s student-facing communication and outreach program, including project management of the communications timeline, oversight of outreach cases, etc.
  • Ensure active collaboration with the Director of Advising Quality when the unit’s communication strategy impacts the workflow and expectations for academic advisors.
  • Support the coordination and implementation of various academic success initiatives and programs as assigned, ensuring high-quality oversight of day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate the implementation and assessment of the college’s course alert program in partnership with the Assistant Dean.
  • Refine and lead the unit’s online academic success resource library.
  • Identify, develop, implement, and assess new and innovative academic success strategies to support student academic success in sync with program, unit, and college goals, as assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison to the A&S communications team on relevant unit-level student-facing communications.
  • In consultation with the Assistant Dean, draft and distribute messages to the student body as needed.
  • Ensure unit-level materials and external website content align with A&S and unit goals, communicate the desired message to the intended audience, and adhere to unit and college’s identity standards, style guides, and legal and compliance guidelines.
Partnerships & Collaborations:
  • Develop and engage in partnerships with college faculty, Office of Undergraduate Education, Office of Data & Analytics, Student Life, and other relevant college/campus partners to provide excellent service to students and promote the mission and goals of the unit and college.
  • Represent the Assistant Dean, unit, and college by meeting with campus partners and administrators to advocate and advance new academic success initiatives in service of A&S students.
  • Ensure the quality and effectiveness of academic success initiatives and the A&S Academic Coaching Program and coaching services are in alignment with the unit’s, college’s, and university’s mission, values, and goals.
Supervision & Mentorship:
  • Supervise the A&S Academic Coaching Program’s professional academic coaches, providing mentoring and professional development in both individual and collaborative, team-based environments.
  • Hire and train new staff, including oversight of robust new hire training and continuing professional development.
  • Develop and monitor annual performance plans and evaluations for each team member consistent with university and college policies, providing honest and ongoing feedback through a coaching approach.
  • Assess and maintain the academic coaching team’s caseload practices and processes.
  • Monitor, assess, and support academic coaches’ individual and team appointment and workshop availability, short- and long-term coverage, utilization rates, student outreach initiatives etc.
  • Provide academic coaching on an as-needed basis to assist with intensified situations, coverage for academic coaches on leave (etc.), specific populations such as summer-start students, and maintain a small ongoing caseload as relevant.

What You Should Know

This is a hybrid position requiring at least 2-3 days/week on campus. This can be subject to change based on the business needs of the department.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary for this full-time position is $78,000-$81,470.

  • Shown knowledge of optimal methodologies of academic coaching and trends in student academic success.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and successfully implement a diverse array of student-centered programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and evaluate staff (through experience and/or training).
  • Adept at troubleshooting intricate challenges, proposing, and implementing organizational change initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate and serve in a leadership capacity on unit-level and campus-wide committees.
  • Track record for developing highly effective communication processes and establishing relationships across an organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Confirmed ability to apply technology and data analytics to promote and improve academic coaching and academic success initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop programs and initiatives at all levels, as well as demonstrate a dedication to collaborative and constructive leadership.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience as an academic coach and/or academic coaching program supervisor.
  • Proven effectiveness in achieving resolution for complex issues and in raising student and parent concerns.
  • Shown experience with standard methodologies in organizational change and leadership development theory.
  • Familiarity with CU Boulder Arts & Sciences programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with student information systems used on the CU Boulder campus.
