Job Summary

The Office of Data Analytics (ODA) encourages applications for a Project Manager and Atlassian Administrator! 

This position will work with the Chief Data Officer and ODA Leadership Team to align and lead projects across ODA, and to manage our suite of Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, JIRA Service Management) to ensure maximum organizational effectiveness and timely service to a variety of campus data users.

As a project manager, you will help coordinate larger, multi-team projects. You will also be responsible for making sure that ODA has a single “front door” for data and analytic requests, and that those requests are prioritized to increase value based on immediate institutional priorities.

As an Atlassian administrator, you will help evaluate our current processes and develop an organization-wide setup and toolkit for our group. This will involve simplified workflows and business processes along with integrations, templates, process rules and reporting.

Who We Are

The Office of Data Analytics (ODA) plays a vital and trusted role in providing high-quality data, analysis, services, and products to our clients and stakeholders that empower them to make informed decisions. Within ODA, the Assessment, Insights, and Measurement (AIM) team leads campus assessment and measurement efforts and provides data narratives and insights (e.g., reports, visualizations, presentations) about the state of the campus. Within the AIM team of ODA, the Measurement group collects data primarily through Faculty Course Questionnaires and large-scale sample surveys. 

This office is comprised of several groups including Assessment, Insights, and Measurement (AIM), Institutional Research, Data Science, and Faculty Information Systems. Each of these teams has different, yet overlapping goals which require greater alignment, project management, and documentation.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Project Management and Team Project Coordination
  • Help convert research questions into business requirements, user stories, descriptions of intended value, and project outcomes.
  • Create project roadmaps, timelines, scope, and deliverables.
  • Create initial documentation and product specifications in Confluence. Solicit feedback and solidify agreement before initiating work. 
  • Using agile framework, create and assign individual tasks, deadlines, and specifications in JIRA.
  • Track team progress toward goals and lead expectations and deliverables to deadlines.
  • Align incoming projects with institutional priorities and manage the backlog to ensure the highest value or most immediate projects happen first.
  • Create a calendar of cyclical and routine work for planning purposes.
  • Coordinate retrospective discussions and document lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Document and archive project artifacts to help scale knowledge.
Atlassian Suite Development and Management
  • Analyze, review, and document current tooling to determine areas of improvement.
  • Maintain standardized processes, templates, and methods to reduce time between project conception and realization in Atlassian tools.
  • Research and apply standard methods and processes in analytics groups.
  • Maintain JIRA projects, workflows, permissions, and users in the Atlassian Cloud environment.
  • Manage access controls to ensure maximum value while balancing security and privacy of other project owners.
  • Connect with other Atlassian users on campus to attempt alignments and create a community of practice.
  • Seek efficiencies, innovate, and iterate.
Data Request Intake and Management
  • Develop a data request intake form and create a “front door” so that all data and analytic requests come through a single source. 
  • Curate tickets and run sprint meetings to prioritize and assign high value/high priority tickets.
  • Handle ticket request backlog and communicate to end users appropriate timelines and expectations.
  • Create automated processes to collect requester contact information and data.
  • Create reports and analytics to understand and predict upcoming needs and capacity.
  • Create automated responses for common requests that point to existing dashboards and resources.
General Responsibilities and Community Participation
  • Communication internally and with external partners.
  • Participation and engagement in projects to improve internal operations.
  • Upskilling and improving data and technical skills.

What You Should Know

  • This position is in a hybrid work situation, anticipated to work mostly remotely with some in person meetings required.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field Or PMP certification with 3+ years of experience.
  • 2+ years hands-on experience working with the Atlassian product suite, including Confluence, JIRA and JIRA Service Management as a Project/Application Administrator.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to construct dashboards and analytic reports in JIRA, and Confluence pages and integrate JIRA projects with Confluence pages.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated work as a project manager, working in an agile environment, ideally in the data or technology space.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating within and across teams.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Skills as a bridge builder and “connector”, able to manage end-user expectations while also driving toward results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with technologists including, but not limited to researchers, front-end developers, data scientists, and BI developers.
  • A spirit of innovation and a desire to reduce inefficiencies through process automation.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • PMP certification.
  • Knowledge and experience working with analytics, development, or data science teams.
  • Experience with data science tools and workflows including (but not limited to) SQL, Tableau/PowerBI, Github, SAS, R, or Python (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn).
  • Experience in, and excitement for the mission of public higher education.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for helping technologists become more effective and efficient.
