Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for a Public Safety Field/Project Engineer! This position supervises and coordinates field activities for the OIT infrastructure required to support project activities related to the Division of Public Safety. This includes coordinating, tracking, and quality assurance for exterior and interior camera installations and card access locations. This position is responsible for assuring contractual requirements and QA/QC of work of our standing order contractors as well as their overall performance and compliance with OIT/CU-Boulder standards. This position works closely with OIT internal staff, Department of Public Safety, design consultants, and contractors to ensure the completion of quality work activities and maintenance of the infrastructure. This position may operate a university service vehicle to attend meetings and site visits. 

This position reports to OIT and has dotted line reporting with the Division of Public Safety Security Services.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Field Project Management: 
  • Provides direction to contractors regarding the camera or access control location and pathway usage or installation from existing IT closets. Conducts daily site visits to inspect the construction activity and compliance to building codes, OIT standards, fire and life safety requirements and quality control standards. Supervise and provide feedback to standing order contractors on their performance. Provide regular status updates to Division of Public Safety, contractor, and internal staff. 
Contracting: 
  • Duties include the processing of required state paperwork including notice to proceed documentation, request of procurement paperwork, receipt and validation of as-built documentation and project closeout/warranty documentation. 
Service Activation: 
  • Assure the progress of jack installation moves to jack activations once jack installations are confirmed. Work with a team to track and complete this activity. 
Financial billing and Activity Closeout: 
  • Approves invoices for daily activities, projects, and repairs. Assures contactor invoicing is accurate, change orders are managed/approved prior to work completion and includes materials and internal labor to be billed.

  • This is a 100% on-campus position works normal business hours Monday - Friday.
  • There is an occasional need for out-of-hour work related to a service incident on campus special events.
  • This role is a limited term position, set to last for a two-year term.

  • The salary range is $74,400 to $83,696 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited institution in telecommunications information systems, engineering or other related field. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 3+ years of experience which includes:
    • Performing field work and oversight related to construction/communications projects, testing and acceptance.
    • Conducting and understanding ANSI/TIA-568 and BICSI Telecommunication Cabling Installation standards for copper and fiber cabling.
    • Conducting and understanding copper ANSI/TIA-568 standard testing for copper cable and ANSI/TIA/EIA-526 testing for multimode and single-mode fiber optic cable.
    • Conducting and understanding ANSI/NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code for cable installation.
    • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • A Valid U.S. Driver's License.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Familiarity with CU-Boulder campus buildings.
  • BICSI Certified Technician.
  • Proficient in fiber and copper terminations.
  • Basic understanding of IP/VLAN.
