Job Summary

A Renée Crown Institute research team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant Level I to support multiple community-engaged research studies broadly focused strategies designed to buffer the negative effects of social media on youth, promote resistance to appearance-based bias, and evaluate the impact of peer-led mental health strategies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to all phases of the research process, from planning to dissemination, while working closely with interdisciplinary research teams and community partners. The Research Assistant will engage in data collection, management, analysis, and reporting, support IRB and compliance activities, and contribute to the development of public-facing digital tools. The role also involves supporting the creation of media-based modules and coordinating content development with the research team. The Research Assistant may receive co-authorship credit on scholarly publications and will be mentored in building research and leadership skills.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Research Coordination and Implementation

  • Collaborate with investigators and study teams on planning, implementation, and logistics across multiple studies.
  • Support Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews.
  • Schedule and document team meetings; manage study logistics, materials, and purchasing.
  • Recruit, consent, and communicate with research participants; distribute study materials and manage follow-up.

Data Collection and Management

  • Program and test study surveys, randomization protocols, and follow-up schedules (e.g., REDCap).
  • Track survey completion, send reminders, and oversee data entry, audits, and quality control.
  • Manage participant incentives to ensure timely and accurate distribution.
  • Organize and maintain secure study datasets; support qualitative and quantitative data cleaning and preliminary analysis.

Analysis and Dissemination

  • Conduct literature reviews, manage citations, and contribute to the creation of tables, figures, and manuscript sections.
  • Assist with the interpretation of study data and preparation of reports, presentations, and publications.

Mentorship and Institutional Engagement

  • Train undergraduate research assistants or interns.
  • Participate in Institute-wide activities, including meetings, database updates, and collaborative events; contribute to a culture of inclusion and innovation.

Digital Content and Media Development

  • Assist in developing and organizing a teen-facing website and mental health tools.
  • Track progress on content development and support usability testing.
  • Oversee digital media tasks, including video/screen recording, editing, archiving, and integration of data collection systems (e.g., REDCap feedback tools).

Community Engagement Research Tasks

  • Facilitate peer-led groups aimed at providing resilience-building strategies to youth as part of research protocols.

What You Should Know

  • This is a hybrid position, and the successful candidate will be required to be in office at least one day a week.
  • This position is a one-year limited term and not expected to continue past June 30, 2026.

The salary for this 50% appointment is $21,060 annually.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science, preferably psychology or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant research experience or a combination of relevant research and administrative experience, including working with human subjects.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Proficiency with computers and common programs (email, Zoom, online data tracking systems).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to problem-solve.
  • Experience assisting with IRB processes.
  • Proficiency in literature review, manuscript preparation, and citation management tools (e.g., Zotero, EndNote).
  • Experience with digital media production (video editing, screen recording, archiving) is a plus.
  • Excellent openness to feedback, eagerness to learn, and commitment to the aims of the research project.
  • Flexibility with work hours.
  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to analyze basic statistics in SPSS or R
  • REDCap experience.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently as well as collaboratively with local and remote collaborators.
  • Adaptability, ability to set and track realistic goals, and capacity to hold multiple responsibilities and competing demands.
