Job Summary

The Institute of Cognitive Science (ICS) encourages applications for a Research Associate to join our research team at CU Boulder. The job involves taking part in several research projects focused on supporting teachers to integrate computational thinking and NGSS-aligned science instruction. The position is funded by research grants that will continue for five years, pending satisfactory job performance. The ideal candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team, and in close collaboration with teachers and school district leaders.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Collaboratively design innovative middle school classroom experiences using a programmable sensing platform.
  • Plan and facilitate professional learning workshops for teachers that focus on NGSS-aligned, CT-integrated science instruction. 
  • Collaboratively develop professional learning resources to support CT integration at scale.
  • Support teachers in their classrooms as they implement CT-integrated science curriculum and troubleshoot issues that arise during the use of micro:bits and related sensors.
  • Engage in collecting and analyzing project data, and disseminating research findings.

  • This opportunity requires the ability to visit teachers at various school sites in Denver, CO on a regular basis.
  • This position is funded through a multi-year research grant that will continue for five years, pending satisfactory job performance.

What We Can Offer

$55,000.00-75,000.00 per year, commensurate with experience.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. in education, computer science, learning sciences or similar (by Summer 2020).
  • Experience supporting teachers and their students to use technology in K12 classrooms.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to visit teachers at various school sites in Denver, CO on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of sensor technology and computational thinking, with some basic knowledge of programming.
  • Interest in publishing, conference presentations, and grant writing.
  • Ability to work as a team member and without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of NGSS aligned curriculum and science instruction.
  • Knowledge of design-based research.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience providing professional support to K12 teachers (in groups and one on one).
  • Research and/or teaching experience related to K12 classrooms.
  • Experience publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Experience in research grant writing.
