Job Summary

We seek a Data and Project Manager (DPM) who will support research and partnership within the Crown Institute by developing, implementing, and maintaining systems for effective data management and data integrity. The DPM will collaborate with partner agencies (e.g. school districts, county and state agencies, federal government) to coordinate, intake, and document shared data and related information. The DPM will clean, merge, and manage multiple primary and secondary data sources including administrative, survey, research, and interview data, shared by partner organizations. The DPM will generate basic descriptive analyses and visualizations for diverse audiences including educators and practitioners. Additionally, the DPM will be responsible for managing project logistics including, but not limited to, developing timelines, sequencing tasks, creating workflows, managing file organization, creating and maintaining protocols and supporting processes, and coordinating communications with Crown Institute members and partners. This position is ideal for detail-oriented individuals with excellent project and data management skills involving research and social science data. Strong R skills are required, additional skills with Stata desired. The DPM will report directly to the Director of Research Partnerships and Data Initiatives within the Crown Institute. Successful applicants will have a minimum of 2 to 5 years of project management and writing code to conduct data management tasks and experience working with longitudinal and multilevel (e.g., students nested in classrooms and in schools) datasets that track children, families, and/or teachers over time.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Research Activities (50%)

  • Work with investigators and study team to identify and complete administrative study activities, such as scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, and purchasing necessary study materials.
  • Work within the research and administrative policies and procedures for the University including but not limited to Institutional Review Board protocols, compliance reporting, and maintaining appropriate certifications.
  • Manage study IRB protocols and project documents.
  • Ensure the integrity of data collection and management systems by contributing to aspects of the programming, design, and management of data collection systems and platforms.
  • Conduct ongoing real-time audits and monitoring of data quality to ensure research integrity of study measurement procedures and data collection.
  • Participate in quantitative data analyses, including managing raw data files and preparing datasets for analysis (e.g., data entry, coding, data quality checks, data cleaning, data merging, reshaping, ID linking, documenting final cleaned datasets).
  • Collaborate with partner agencies (e.g. school districts, county and state agencies, federal government) to coordinate, intake, and document shared data and related information.
  • Contribute to research planning and study development.
  • Work with investigators to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of study data as well as the preparation of study reports, study documentation, presentations, funding proposals, and manuscripts.
  • Train, supervise, and work with undergraduate student assistants or new study personnel.
  • Participate in Institute-wide activities such as updating Institute databases, communicating study-specific information back to Institute teams and leadership, attending Institute meetings and workshops, working with Institute teams such as Communications to update the website or outreach coordinator for event planning and contributing to the culture and values of the Institute.

Project Management (50%)

  • Develop research project plans/project roadmaps, using backwards planning to develop timelines for project milestones based on the project end date.
  • Effectively utilize project management materials, processes, and systems, demonstrating a strong understanding of project management best practices.
  • Maintain an Asana board to manage and track progress for the project timeline, deliverables, and action items.
  • Prepare and/or organize project documents and materials.
  • Schedule team meetings and maintain agendas and action items.
  • Coordinate to manage the research team to ensure successful and timely completion of project milestones.
  • Coordinate on the planning and execution of data collection and associated timelines.
  • Communicate with internal and external partners on project objectives and timelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with project team members.

What You Should Know

  • This is a hybrid position and the successful candidate will be required to be in office at least two days a week.

The salary range for this full-time appointment is $57,874 - $68,364 annually

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years of research and project management experience
  • 2 years of experience writing advanced, clean code in R (i.e. the ability to accurately clean, merge, reshape, append, etc., while maintaining through documentation)
  • Significant experience performing descriptive analysis with quantitative data

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science or a related field (e.g., education, psychology, public policy, economics).
  • At least 5 years of relevant research experience, relevant project management experience, or a combination of research, project management, and administrative experience.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Experience performing descriptive analyses, managing data, and creating reports with quantitative data and simple static visualizations in R (additional expertise with STATA a plus).
  • Experience with survey design and implementation.
  • Experience with human subjects research and program evaluations.
  • A strong understanding of the educational system and the intersections between education and related policy areas such as health, criminal justice, and/or social welfare.
  • Experience with project management software, preferably Asana.
  • Proficiency with computers and common programs (Microsoft suite, Zoom).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to problem-solve.
  • Excellent openness to feedback, eagerness to learn, and commitment to the aims of the research project.
