Job Summary

The Department of Biochemistry welcomes applications for a Research Technician in the Aaron Whiteley Research Group. Our lab is located in the new Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building on East Campus that includes faculty in the Department of Biochemistry, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and the BioFrontiers Institute. 

Who We Are

Since 1986, Biochemistry at the University of Colorado at Boulder has offered a world-class interdisciplinary research environment in a beautiful mountain setting. Faculty includes a Nobel Laureate, five members of the National Academy of Sciences, three Howard Hughes Investigators, and many other esteemed scientists who have established themselves as research leaders within biochemistry. 

The Aaron Whiteley Research Group works at the interface of bacteria and the immune system, including the study of innate immunity, bacteriology/microbiology, and pathogenesis. The ultimate goal of our work is to better understand the molecular details of how pathogens cause disease and interact with humans.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Lab management responsibilities include ordering and purchasing, shipping reagents and materials, maintaining lab inventory, autoclaving, general lab maintenance, and helping to coordinate undergraduate research assistants. During the remainder of the time, the candidate will have their own research project or help others in the lab on projects related to microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology. Common methods in the lab include molecular biology and cloning, bacteriology, phage infection biology, mammalian tissue culture, recombinant protein production, biochemistry, and associated data analysis. 

What You Should Know

The start date should be as soon as possible and no later than March 15th. A two-year minimum commitment is requested.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of six months of part or full-time laboratory experience. 

What You Will Need

An interest in learning novel techniques and biological principles. 

What We Would Like You To Have

Experience with molecular biology techniques such as cloning, bacteriology, or mammalian tissue culture.
