Job Summary
The Department of Computer Science (CS) encourages applications for Robotics Laboratory Technician! Under the direction of the robotics faculty in the CS department, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the robotics fabrication lab. This role helps build and maintain robotic platforms, actively teaches students on the use of tools, manages inventory, and performs inventory control. Success in this position includes creating an effective laboratory environment that enhances student and faculty productivity; exploring new materials and tools as they become available; contributing creatively to the academic output of the laboratory; and demonstrating competency and sensitivity in working in an academic community that is diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be produced within three (3) days of hire.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Robotics Fabrication Laboratory Coordination and Support:
- Oversees the day-to- day operations of the robotics laboratory to establish priorities, and to ensure consistency in schedules and safety guidelines. Conducts specialized technical tasks for faculty, students, and external customers to design, fabricate, and repair robotic systems in the Computer Science department.
- Acts as a subject-matter-expert, instruct and resolve issues for faculty and students related to manufacturing as they arise. This includes providing technical guidance and assistance on work methods, the use of equipment, techniques, and analysis of results. Must know the latest on new developments, skills, and knowledge in robotics, electronics, rapid prototyping, and related fields.
- Educates students in a variety of equipment use such as mills, printed circuit board design, 3D modeling and fabrication, laser cutters, and soldering stations to fabricate specialized products. Uses a variety of testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, waveform generators, power supplies, and mechanical testing equipment.
- Educates and supports students involved in community engagement activities and actively supports IRL community initiatives.
- Maintains good collaborative relationships with other laboratories and instructional resources on campus.
- Addresses the teaching needs of faculty, teaching assistants, and course managers for what concerns hardware support in our Robotics courses.
- Coordinates the execution of experiments, projects and services with students and faculty to produce one-of- a-kind products. Verifies the work of students to ensure efficiency and quality of output.
Inventory, Tool, and Equipment Maintenance:
- Maintains equipment and performs repairs. Arranges for servicing to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and properly calibrated.
- Keeps and tracks tool equipment inventory, determines which tools are needed, recommends equipment and material purchases to purchasing staff.
- Monitors mobile and stationary robotic platforms in the laboratory to assure proper performance for fieldwork and schedules repairs and maintenance.
- Ensures student compliance with safety rules in the use of tools and machines, including behavior around moving parts and the proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Electronics Integration and Soldering:
- Reviews, tests, evaluates and modifies electronics and equipment as needed by IRL's programmatic needs.
- Assists in design and integration of systems for use in the field.
Travel and Field Work:
- Travels as needed to support fieldwork and other operational needs of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory (IRL).
What You Should Know
This position typically works Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with some evenings and weekends. Most work hours will be in-person on campus.

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering +1 year of professional work related to the assignment.
