Job Summary

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese (https://www.colorado.edu/spanish/) at The University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Second Language Acquisition / Applied Linguistics with a focus on Heritage Languages. Candidates should have a strong background in linguistic theory and methods and should exhibit promise and/or evidence of a strong publication record. Preference will be given to candidates whose research has a focus on linguistic characteristics of second and/or heritage language varieties of Spanish. Usage-based approaches are valued.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The position entails a teaching load of 2/2 with undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring responsibilities. Teaching responsibility will also include the creation and development of undergraduate courses in Spanish as a Heritage Language. The successful candidate will produce a strong record of publications and will participate in a variety of service responsibilities as a faculty member. This position will start in August 2020.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. in (Hispanic) Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition/Applied Linguistics or related field in hand at the time of appointment. 
  • Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.

What You Will Need

  • Specialization in Second Language Acquisition / Applied Linguistics with a focus on Heritage Languages. 
  • Candidates should have a strong background in linguistic theory and methods and should exhibit promise and/or evidence of a strong publication record.

  4. One-page statement describing research related goals
  5. One-page statement describing teaching-related goals geared toward heritage languages 
  6. One-page diversity and inclusion statement that addresses how you have contributed to and will contribute to diversity and inclusion in the higher education setting
  7. You will be asked by our system to provide three (3) professional references. These individuals will be contacted to solicit recommendation letters at a more advanced stage of the application process. This information will be kept confidential and viewable only by the search committee.
  8. A copy/sample of a syllabus is optional
Review of applications will begin November 15th and full consideration will be given to applications received by December 15th. Three letters of recommendation will be requested by December 20th for candidates that will be interviewed.
