Job Summary

As a Senior IAM Application Administrator and Authentication Specialist, you will be responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, and operation of enterprise systems and services, providing the foundation for authentication and access to critical applications and business services for the entire CU Boulder campus. You’ll be part of the team that supports provisioning, directory services, person data management, individual and group access control, federation and single-sign-on, and the integration of these services with other IT services and applications across campus.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Integration and Consultation for OIT Projects and Campus IT Initiatives
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations on identity and access requirements for new projects and established processes. 
  • Integrate applications and services with Identity and Access Management tools and solutions.
  • Communicate best practices for authentication, authorization, and provisioning.
  •  Service Operation:
  • Manage day-to-day routine tasks related to the operation of IAM infrastructure, applications, and processes, including event and problem detection, incident management, restoration of service, investigation and root cause analysis, and remediation. 
  • Responding to fulfillment and access requests for identity services and applications. 
  • Provide expertise in the areas of configuration management, revision control, and release/deployment processes.
Service Transition
  • Participate in the building of IAM services and processes, evaluating, testing, and carrying out changes consistent with established change management practices. 
  • Contribute to and maintain documentation, capturing details of changes and problem resolution.
Continual Service Improvement
  • Regularly review, benchmark, and audit services and processes, identifying specific improvements to increase quality and value.
  • Verify that initiatives are carried out, positively impacting services and users.
Service Strategy & Design
  • Participate in strategic decisions about how best to fulfill IAM needs of both users and IT service providers. 
  • Explore and assess new technologies and innovative approaches to solving problems. 
  • Contribute to the design of new services and improvement to existing services. 
Subject Matter Expert: Provide leadership, direction, and process development in the area of integrating new services with the campus Shibboleth Identity Provider Service.

What You Should Know

This is a two-year appointment and while it may be the case that we are able to extend this appointment, for the present, this position is only funded for two years.

This position is subject to a formal on-call rotation with definitive response times, where the likelihood of having to come on-site to respond to an issue is low. When not on call, you may be asked to respond in a reasonable (though not definitive) amount of time outside of normal working hours.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • 3 years experience as a product or project administrator in an Identify Management service area with responsibilities for operations, configuration and performance improvement. 

What You Will Need

  • Data inquiry and database management skills. 
  • High-level understanding of the role of Identity & Access Management in the delivery of IT services. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor and effectively as part of a team. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • 2 years technical experience as a developer, system integrator, or system administrator in Linux and Windows environments.
  • 2 years technical experience operating, configuring, and managing Microsoft Active Directory or LDAP directories.
  • 2 years technical experience operating, configuring, and managing an enterprise Identity Manager solution (e.g. Oracle Identity Manager).
  • General technical experience with other identity, trust, and access middleware (e.g. Grouper).
  • At least one year technical experience operating, configuring, and managing Shibboleth or another SAML-based Identity Provider application.
  • Proficiency in Oracle database environments.
  • Experience with enterprise person registry databases, Oracle Database, SQL programming and inquiry, and database design principles.
  • Technical experience with message queue architecture and concepts.
  • Technical experience managing web application stacks and application containers, including Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, Jetty, etc.
  • Development and automation experience using Java, JavaScript, shell scripting, and other languages.
  • General experience with version control systems (e.g. Git), testing, and deployment processes.
