Job Summary

The University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB) invites applications for a non-tenure track senior instructor to serve as the faculty director of the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Engineering Partnership Program. This is a joint UCB-CMU program offering three inter-campus degrees in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering—the coursework for which is delivered in its entirety at CMU’s expanding Grand Junction campus. The faculty director will be an employee of the University of Colorado and have limited teaching duties while serving in residence at CMU, in a leading administrative capacity.

Who We Are

In partnership with the University of Colorado’s flagship campus, the CMU Engineering program is substantially expanding accredited Bachelor’s degree instruction on Colorado’s Western slope to include Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Computer engineering. The University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) and Colorado Mesa University (CMU), began this partnership in 2008, to deliver a Mechanical Engineering (ME) Program. A Civil Engineering (CE) Partnership Program began in 2016 and an Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Partnership Program rolled out in 2019. After a decade of operations, this venture has been renamed the Engineering Partnerships Program (EPP); it currently has 17 faculty who are collectively responsible for the instruction of more than 100 matriculating undergraduates. CMU faculty advise student groups, maintain professional development contacts with industry partners, while participating in Program committees and initiatives.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

In addition to broad knowledge of foundations, processes, and principles of civil or mechanical engineering, interdisciplinary teaching interests and college instructional experience is required. This position’s effort is apportioned such that the faculty director teaches 3.5 classes per year, with the balance of time dedicated to administering the Engineering program. The faculty director is expected to provide the leadership effort required to coordinate faculty and staff between the respective campuses, in order to execute following administrative tasks:
  • Recruitment and supervision of program faculty and staff
  • Steward the general growth of the EPP
  • Student recruitment, advising, and academic support activities
  • Course coordination and evaluation
  • Course schedule preparation and coordination
  • Program assessment and ABET accreditation
  • Administration of facilities and equipment
  • Fundraising and community outreach for the programs including cooperation with the Eureka Science Museum at CMU
