Job Summary

As a Senior Software Engineer/Analyst, your main task is to develop, enhance, and maintain web applications for various campus departments by conducting system requirement studies, analyzing the needs, designing the applications, performing development, and deploying the applications.   

You will participate in Agile development team, facilitate problem identification and solution, and support the application post-production. Train new employees as necessary in the technical aspects of the application programming process.
As a senior fullstack and advanced developer, you will be a resource to more junior developers in resolving complex issues. You are expected to bring in software development best practices into the OIT group and influence future implementations of applications and databases at OIT.

Our goals include, among other campus-wide objectives:
  • Creation of at least four massive and automated, for-credit, online degrees or certificates.
  • The ability to offer at least 10% of all main campus courses directly online, leading to online degrees.
In this role you will provide direction for the new Online Education Initiative solutions, serving as a key subject-matter expert and providing technical leadership and product delivery for the project. You will be developing a holistic online education solution with attention to system integration and feasibility.

In partnership with CU’s internal business owners, Enterprise Services, and external vendors, you will be responsible for specific application, database, infrastructure and/or online education portfolios and platforms while helping connect the dots among our existing systems, infrastructure and vendor solutions, thereby facilitating an integrated user experience.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Programming, Development, and Support 
  • Write, test, and deploy web applications using a variety of programming languages and technologies including but not limited to Java, Javascript and SQL. Help maintain application written in Java, Javascript, PHP, and jQuery. The developer will independently and collaboratively perform coding, unit testing, and documentation; improve architecture and optimize performance, and participate in cross-functional teams that address strategic business issues.
 Technical Analysis; tactical solution design and implementation
  • Analyze manual and automated administrative systems and processes; study and translate system requirements by developing technical solutions, analyzing paper and data flows and processes, and incorporating business policies, procedures, and objectives.  Analyze disparate information systems and develop technical plan for integrating the systems as required. Work with customers to learn business requirements and turn those into technical requirements.
 Professional Development
  • Maintain proficiency, certifications, and acquire knowledge on development processes and best practices regarding delivering development services to a university campus by reading trade journals, attending conferences, seminars and classes, learning new technologies and participating in discussions with colleagues and peer institutions.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field. A combination of education and or relevant experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis. 
    • 4+ years software development in Java, Javascript, or other Object-oriented programming languages. 
    • Experience with MVC and Object Oriented Design and Programming.  
    • 2+ years SQL database (Oracle, MySQL, or others).  
    • Familiarity with Source code control, such as GIT.
