Job Summary

The Book Store at CU Boulder invites applications for a Technology/Sales Manager! This position will provide leadership and vision for the CU Book Store Technology Department. They will be responsible for developing and enhancing vendor programs to meet the technology needs of the CU Book Store customer base. They will negotiate vendor contracts and research and establish student financing options for technology hardware purchases. They will communicate with external CU departments to ensure the CU Book Store is meeting the technology needs across campus. They will collaborate with the following internal teams: accounting, marketing, ecommerce, IT, buying, POS and sales floor management. They will be responsible for managing the technology services provided by the CU Book Store. They will be responsible for managing a team of student staff to ensure superior customer service is provided, product is stocked to meet sales goals, merchandising guidelines are followed, and all policies and procedures are continually met.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

General Management of Technology Services
  • Implement and manage all vendor contracts, including Apple and Dell.
  • Implement and manage all rental programs.
  • Implement and manage financing options for student purchases.
  • Oversee and coordinate services provided by the Technology Department, including 3D printing, laser cutting, third-party computer repair intake, and additional offerings.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with external service providers to ensure quality, reliability, and alignment with departmental goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with campus departments to ensure the Book Store is meeting technology needs across campus.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential application to improve technology retail operations.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are continually met and develop new standard operating procedures as needed.
Manage the Technology Sales Floor Department
  • Ensure seamless operation of the POS system.
  • Ensure student employees are provided training and product knowledge to optimize customer service experience.
  • Implement and maintain technology sales floor layout and displays for optimal sales.
  • Ensure ADA compliance is met in the technology area. 
  • Coordinate product promotions and seasonal displays to drive customer traffic and sales.
  • Ensure vendor specific merchandising standards are met.
  • Ensure the sales floor is restocked as needed to ensure all product is represented on the sales floor.
  • Ensure inbound product is processed efficiently and in a timely manner to support continuous product availability.
  • Maintain organization and clear labelling of backstock areas, ensuring easy access and efficient restocking. 
  • Partner with the inventory control manager on cycle counts and inventory issues.
  • Partner with the buying team and the inventory control manager to ensure optimal reorder points and preferred stock levels are established and maintained to support accurate product replenishment and effective product placement. 
  • Partner with the marketing team to ensure store signage is updated as needed. 
Student Supervision 
  • Collaborate with Student Coordinator on student employee recruitment.
  • Responsible for scheduling students to ensure adequate coverage in the technology area.
  • Conduct coaching sessions and performance reviews for student employees on a semester basis or as assigned.
  • Set goals for student employees and foster a collaborative, productive environment.
  • Approve time off and timesheets.
  • Develop and implement student training programs.
Collaborate with internal departments
  • Collaborate with sales floor and visual merchandising teams on sales floor mapping and merchandising plans for the technology department.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on efforts to optimize technology sales.
  • Collaborate with the E-commerce team to ensure strong technology website representation.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to ensure the technology needs across campus are met.
  • Collaborate with the buying team on product assortment and will ensure vendors provide comprehensive product knowledge.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Control Manager to ensure inventory accuracy and successful replenishment program for the technology department. 
  • Collaborate with the accounting team on contracts and financing.
  • Assist with GM physical inventory.
Other duties as assigned, including travel

What We Can Offer

  • The annual hiring range for this position is $60,000 - $62,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • At least 2 years of experience in the technology field. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail environment. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.

What You Will Need

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Strong customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and time management skills.
  • Experience with retail inventory management systems and POS software.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience with implementing and managing vendor contracts.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP.
