Job Summary

The Bursar's Office at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a Technology & Process Innovation Supervisor. The Technology and Process Innovation Supervisor exists to provide oversight to the Technology and Process Innovation area within Student Financial Services unit. This position supervises three full-time professional staff who are responsible for student financial system security, tuition and fees quality assurance process, document management, reporting, 3Cs (communication, checklists, and comments), and process innovation. This position works closely with Associate Bursar Student Financial Services to determine and recommend best practices for technology, system security, process improvement, and produce data and reports to help with departmental and university decision-making.

The mission of the Bursar’s Office at the University of Colorado Boulder is to efficiently enable and assist students and departments in meeting their financial obligations, with a focus on financial integrity and accountability. The Bursar’s Office is responsible for the management of key university financial resources and records, and acts as a central collection point for university receipts.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Supervising 3 FTE. 
  • Complete detailed performance plans for all employees by campus and department deadlines. Schedule and conduct coaching and progress review meetings during the performance management cycle. 
  • Conduct performance evaluation meetings by campus and department deadlines. 
  • Provide training and professional growth opportunities for employees. 
  • Supervise in a fair and objective manner. 
  • Demonstrate support and pride for staff accomplishments. 
  • Encourage staff to participate in campus diversity opportunities. 
  • Work closely with Associate Bursar Student Financial Services to develop the department succession plan and provide necessary tools and knowledge to ensure staff can work effectively and efficiently. 
  • Efficiently plan and develop long-term goals and objectives by analyzing and interpreting statistics and trends and formulating and implementing changes in policies and procedures while evaluating and developing approaches to customer service needs.
Technology and Process Innovation
  • Review existing/new technology and business processes:
    • Recommend the appropriate technology/new system functionalities used to increase efficiency and effectiveness of business processes.
    • Recommend best practices for business processes.
    • Develop operational measurement guidelines to help with decision making, such as dashboard reporting.
    • Help develop training materials and provide training as necessary to direct reports, and other Bursar staff.
    • Work with other departments within the University for collaboration in joint technology and process innovation initiatives.
Oversight of Daily Operations 
  • Oversight of the daily operations of the Technology and Process Innovation area within Student Financial Services unit. . The areas of responsibility include but not limited to:
    • Ensure student financial integrated system security is in place for internal control and segregation of duty. The systems include CU-SIS, Document Management, payment systems, and FTP.
    • Research and testing development items and new functionalities to ensure we use SF integrated system at the full capacity.
    • Document management to ensure we utilize the tool appropriately for document archiving, workflow, etc.
    • Quality assurance process for tuition and fees configuration to ensure accuracy in student billing and refunding.
    • Reporting to ensure we maintain financial integrity of student financial data and produce operation reports that help with decision-making.
    • 3Cs management for comments, checklists, and communications.
    • Identifies and investigates errors from system upgrades and tuition calculation programming and provides solutions for the impacted student populations.
    • This position will represent the department in meetings and/or working groups for technology and process innovation projects or initiatives.
Special Projects
  • The position is also responsible for implementation of special projects as required by the Bursar's Office, and/or the University, as needed.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology/Information System, or Business related field from an accredited institution of higher education 
    • Experience in Information System and/or Business Analyst can substitute for Bachelor's degree on a year-to-year basis. 
  • Experience developing reports/queries and/or have knowledge in relational databases. 
  • 2 years of experience in the following: 
    • Integration between technical and business systems.  
    • Supervisory experience.   
    • Working in Higher Education. 

What You Will Need

  • Technology/technical oriented. 
  • Demonstrated success in training and leading a professional operations team. 
  • Demonstrated professional experience preparing and presenting information effectively, clearly, and concisely. 

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience with the following: 
    • Integrated student systems such as Banner or PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. 
    • Query tools such as MS Access and PS query and report tools such as Cognos.
    • Finance and Accounting business. 
    • Managing PUM, people tools testing.
    • PeopleSoft Campus Solutions - Student Financial module. 
    • PeopleSoft Campus Solutions security area.
    • People Tools 8.5+.
    • Document Management tool such as Hyland OnBase.
