The University of Colorado’s (CU) Department of Geological Sciences is looking to hire a Field Trip Shuttle Driver! The incumbent will drive a 15-passenger van to transport students in the GEOL1030 course to field trip destinations in the Boulder area and its surroundings.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

Geology is a science concerned with the Earth - its relationship to the solar system, its origin and developmental history, its structure and composition, its dynamic processes, and its evolution. Geology also relates to human endeavors and needs, including the use of natural resources, the preservation of the environment, global change, and the mitigation of geologic hazards.

The department considers the diverse opportunities for field studies in the high plains and central Rocky Mountains of Colorado a particular strength of its undergraduate programs. In addition, the department has research laboratories for studying rock and mineral deformation, soils, sedimentation, geo-microbial processes, petrology and mineralogy.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

c. Dinosaur Ridge (Alameda Parkway in Lakewood)
d. Flagstaff Mountain
  • Perform a vehicle shuttle for both the Dinosaur Ridge and Flagstaff trips to facilitate a one-way walking trip for class participants. For each trip, this will entail driving the van to a new location, walking about 1 mile to retrieve an SUV that has been driven by the class instructor, and driving the SUV to the same new location where you parked the van. This must be accomplished in one hour.
  • All trips will take place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays – Thursdays. On most days you will drive one trip between 11:00 a.m. and 1:50 p.m., then drive a second trip between 2:00-4:50 p.m., however the schedule will vary from week to week.
  • There are 16 sections of GEOL1030 with four trips per section, for a total of 64 trips. The total driving time is about 192 hours for all trips, which will transpire between the mid-September and December 2, 2021.
