Who We Are

One of four centers within the Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, the Aerospace Mechanics Research Center (AMReC) is concerned with the analysis and design of complex high-performance materials, structures and systems, predominantly for aeronautical and space applications. This includes the development of innovative computational analysis and design techniques as well as the application of these techniques and methods to novel, exciting aerospace problems.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Completes the construction and assembly of a new test section and diffuser for the Novel Sloping Low-Speed Wind Tunnel housed within the Experimental Aerodynamics Laboratory in coordination with the Aerospace Engineering Sciences Machine Shop.
  • Reconfigures and updates the existing wind tunnel instrumentation including the in-situ speed measurements and fan control.
  • Conducts verification experimental measurements of the wind tunnel flow quality.
    • Implements wind tunnel calibration between pitot-static probe and fan control.
    • Assess the background turbulence levels and boundary layer behavior using constant temperature anemometry.
    • Assess flow uniformity and boundary layer behavior using particle image velocimetry measurements.
  • Documents the wind tunnel baseline performance in a final report due by August 31, 2021 and regularly prepares figures and findings for CU WildFire Group Meetings every-other week throughout the summer period.

  • This appointment will end on August 14, 2021.
  • Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

The hourly rate will be $29.50 and will be paid bi-weekly.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum of six months prior research/work experience.
  • Candidate must already be accepted into the CU Aerospace Engineering Ph.D. Program.
