The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) encourages applications for a Temporary Researcher to assist in the design, simulation, assembly, and characterization of scientific instruments for high-frequency, microwave, and mm-wave power measurements.

Who We Are

PREP is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder.  PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.
The particular group that needs a researcher is the RF Electronics Group under the RF Technology Division at NIST.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Assist in the development of solid models, mechanical drawings including geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing, simulations of electromagnetic and thermal characteristics, assembly of new scientific instruments, and characterization of existing and new scientific instruments.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

The salary range is $17.00 - $30.00 per hour.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with scientific instrument design, computer aided design, and finite element simulations.

What We Would Like You To Have

Experience with thermal and high-frequency (1 GHz to 100 GHz) simulations, experience with high-frequency test and measurement electronics, experience programming in Python, Matlab, or other scientific programming languages.
