Job Summary
The QUASAR Lab in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an Hourly Quantum Software Engineer to support research and development in quantum computing systems and software. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. The position involves implementing and evaluating quantum software techniques, developing research software for quantum platforms, and supporting ongoing research projects in quantum computing, quantum optimization, and quantum computer architecture.
Who We Are
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Read and analyze recent research papers in quantum computing and related areas.
- Develop software tools and infrastructure for quantum computing platforms.
- Implement, evaluate, and benchmark algorithms and software systems.
- Prepare technical reports, document research outcomes, and present progress to the research team.
- Collaborate with faculty and students on research projects.
What We Can Offer
The anticipated pay rate for the selected candidate is $19.00 per hour.

What We Require
- Enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Background in the fundamentals of quantum computing.
- Experience with software development and programming.
What You Will Need
- Understanding of the fundamentals of quantum computing.
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language, such as Python or C++.
- Familiarity with one or more quantum software development kits (e.g., Qiskit, CUDA-Q, Cirq, PennyLane, or similar).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Background in quantum computer architecture and systems.
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and running large-scale computational workloads.
- Prior research experience in quantum computing, quantum software, or related areas.
- Experience using version control tools (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development practices.
