Job Summary

Temporary Stage Technicians work closely with the Production Managers of Macky Auditorium and in collaboration with peer Manager(s) and other theater leadership. They perform duties as part of the production team including, but not limited to, all aspects of production load in, set up, run of show, load out, and maintenance of backstage work areas and other related activities.

Who We Are

Macky Auditorium Concert Hall is a multi-disciplinary venue and an auxiliary unit of the University of Colorado's College of Music. One of the 12 buildings that forms the Norlin Quadrangle Historic District, it serves the campus and the region by entertaining, educating and challenging audiences with high quality local, national and international performances and events. A wide range of performers and speakers have graced our stage throughout the years, such as Eleanor Roosevelt, the Dalai Lama, Yo-Yo Ma, Jane Goodall, Robin Williams, Conan O’Brien, Bill Maher, Eddie Izzard, Alley II, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sam Harris, Pilobolus, and Bill Nye, just to name a few!

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

* Ability to work varying hours required for event and production, assist in the coordination of complex technical set-ups, such as stage management, lighting, sound, props and shop activities.
 * Skillfully use various types of technical theater rigging, stage managing, lighting, sound, audiovisual, props and shop activities.
 * Assists with maintenance and repairs of technical theater equipment within Macky Auditorium and support spaces.
 * Alerts Production Managers on potential equipment failures or needed maintenance.
 * Continue specified training in all departments (Rigging, audio, lighting, stage management).

What You Should Know

This is a temporary on - call position with no regular scheduled hours working primarily evenings and weekends. We anticipate the position ending in May 2026.

What We Can Offer

The pay range for this position is $18.90 - $21.50 per hour.

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave

What We Require

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year working as Stage Technician.
  • Must be able to work nights/weekends (flexible scheduling available).
  • Must complete Macky orientation, Rigging and Safety training.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

What You Will Need

  • Must have ability to follow directions and work as a team.
  • Must have previous experience working in stage management, lighting, sound, props, and shop activities.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Two years work experience in professional theater and/or specific training in the area of rigging, audio, lighting, or stage management.
