Transportation Services provides comprehensive transit, fleet management, and maintenance to serve the faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the CU Boulder. The University of Colorado vehicle fleet numbers over 600; a robust transit system moving 1.4 million riders per year at the CU Boulder campus; and mentorship for driver operations for campuses located in Aurora, Boulder, and Denver.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Vehicle Diagnose, Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform a full range of preventative maintenance and repair duties related to University vehicles, which includes cars, SUVs, vans, light duty trucks with computerized fuel injected systems-automotive gas, electric, hybrid engines.
  • Diagnose and make appropriate repairs on light duty vehicles as to return vehicles to users in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner.
  • Repairs may constitute use of specialized equipment and tooling.
  • Work performed includes inspecting, analyzing, and repairing defective or inoperable vehicle components. These duties include preventative maintenance services, drivability issues, no start problems, charging systems, wheels and tires, exhaust and emission control systems supplemental restraint components (air bag), law enforcement emergency lighting systems and other parts related items as needed.
  • Repairs are performed using a wide range of troubleshooting, testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
  • Inspect and replace vital wear points and expendable fluids.
  • Inspecting vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
  • Conducting routine maintenance work striving to vehicle functionality and longevity. Report all findings following Transportation Services repair guidelines.
  • Record and report all safety issues.

What You Should Know

This is a temporary, full-time position anticipated to work Monday through Friday from 8 am - 5 pm.

This temporary role has the potential to be converted into a regular staff position!

What We Can Offer

The hourly pay for this position is $23.50 per hour.

What We Require

  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in automotive maintenance which must include inspecting, servicing and maintaining vehicles drivability, fuel injection, engine, suspension, transmission, differentials, electrical system (reading of wiring diagrams, wiring layouts) and installation of emergency equipment.
  • A valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Motor Vehicle Type and Endorsements, if any: Class C acceptable preferred Class B with passenger endorsement.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Proven understanding of safety practices and procedures related to the automotive industry.
  • Ability to operate electronic diagnostic/scan tools.
  • Automotive Service Excellence(ASE) Certification (or similar certification) in brakes, suspension, transmission, engine repair and electrical is preferred however years of experience can be substituted.
