Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a UMC Maintenance Technician I position! This role provides working support for the UMC Maintenance Department, and receives daily assignments and instructions from the UMC Maintenance Supervisor. This position is responsible for maintaining the mechanical systems and infrastructure of the facility, and provides a wide array of building maintenance functions and support in multiple areas of the UMC including the building mechanical systems, bowling equipment, plumbing repairs, carpentry work, painting, etc. The Maintenance Tech I will troubleshoot equipment problems and make needed repairs, help maintain general upkeep throughout the facility, and assists with implementing the maintenance work order system and preventative maintenance programs throughout the UMC.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

General Maintenance: 
  • Conduct regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades across a variety of systems within the UMC, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
HVAC Maintenance: 
  • Apply your experience with HVAC controls to ensure our heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are running efficiently and effectively, performing routine services, purchasing and installing of new filters, and responding to specific issues as needed.
Facility Upkeep: 
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to ensure the UMC remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.
Preventive Maintenance: 
  • Adhere to a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of facility equipment.
Energy Efficiency: 
  • Monitor building systems to optimize energy use, reduce costs, and support sustainability initiatives. Test functionality of equipment on a schedule and set up balancing as needed.
Vendor Management: 
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers to ensure that outsourced work meets our high standards and specifications.
Compliance and Safety: 
  • Ensure all activities adhere to university safety policies and are aligned with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
Emergency Response: 
  • Provide timely and effective responses to maintenance emergencies within the UMC, including potential off-hours work.
Documentation: 
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs completed, and warranties, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

  • This is a fully in-person position.
  • Standard schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 9am to 6pm. Some late nights and weekends may be necessary based on projects and departmental needs.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $41,808 to $47,840 annually.

What We Require

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Current, valid driver's license.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work independently and complete job assignments in an appropriate, prescribed amount of time.
  • Ability to work on a team to complete job assignments.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and the ability to diagnose proper course of action when problems or issues arise and resolve them in a timely and appropriate manner.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Certifications: Possession of HVAC certification is a strong advantage. Certifications or licensing in other areas like electrical or plumbing are beneficial.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school certification or associate degree in a related field is a plus.
