Job Summary

The Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement at CU Boulder welcomes applications for Residential Supervisors (RS)! The role acts as the liaison between the Assistant Director and the team of Residential Advisors (RAs). Like the RAs, the RS's are responsible for ensuring the wellness and overall positive experience of University of Colorado Upward Bound Program summer participants. Along with the direct supervision of the RA staff, the RS's position's primary focus is to provide leadership and compassionate care in creating a positive experience with a focus on safety and engagement. The RS's act with the on-site support of the RA's as well as support from the Directors. RS's also must enforce CUUB standards and University policies to ensure safety and cultivate environments that are welcoming and conductive to living and learning. 

RS's are selected for their proven leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, ability to delegate tasks, positive strong communication skills, capacity for partnership, positive and caring demeanor, and their sense of accountability. Selected RS's are responsible for fostering and facilitating a positive community among all residents, promoting a safe and comfortable living environment, and serving as a representative and role model for the University and the Upward Bound Program.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The responsibilities of a Residential Supervisor are extensive and require flexibility when working in a constantly evolving environment. Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
Staff Supervision and Development:
  • Directly supervise 12 residential advisors (RA).
  • Create and manage weekly staff duty schedules to include on-call rotation, days off, nightly rounds, meal check-ins, free time duties, etc.
  • Collaborate and attend daily 1 on 1’s with Assistant Director.
  • Organize and facilitate daily 1 on 1’s and nightly team staff meetings.
  • Perform frequent, proactive assessments of staff.
  • Provide a supportive and approachable space that encourages open lines of communication between you and residential staff.
  • Communicate status of tasks to other members of the team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and ensure staff are at designated placements.
Community Development:
  • Work with the staff in the development of activities designed to develop connections between residents.
  • Role model appropriate and respectful behavior at all times including supervising online self-content and upholding university policies.
  • Uphold CUUB code on conduct, O.U.R F.I.R.E values, all University and residential hall policies.
  • Assist students in establishing and maintaining CUUB and University standards.
  • Instruct and model respect for shared community values, focusing on establishing and sustaining a welcoming environment.
  • Support residential staff and resolve issues within the group.
  • Transport students in 12 or 15 passenger vans.
  • Mediate issues between students and staff using conflict resolution skills.
Program Safety:
  • Serve in on-call duty rotation which includes being readily available and able to be contacted.
  • Serve as a Mandatory Reporter.
  • Confront and document inappropriate behavior.
  • Assess and make decisions in emergency situations with urgency.
  • Ensure all students follow the safety protocols established by CUUB and the University.
  • Collect and administer prescribed medication to students when needed.
  • Report any concerns directly to directors regarding RA’s or teaching staff.
Teamwork:
  • Work closely with the RA’s, Directors, and teaching staff.
  • Create positive and supportive communication with CUUB staff, University staff and other program coordinators.
  • Establish and maintain communication with students, peers, and directors.
  • Collaborate with students, RA’s, and directors to create a community that emphasizes mutual respect and a sense of belonging.
  • Empower and support RA staff, supervisors, and directors.
  • Practice positive workplace relationships with fellow staff and other program coordinators.
  • Successfully interact and effectively connect with staff, students, and other program members.
Administrative:
  • Assist director/assistant director with projects and program documentations.
  • Update Blumen database.
  • Perform copying and filing as needed.
  • Create program flyers and itineraries.
  • Create daily meeting agendas with updates.
  • Print weekly schedules and meeting agendas.

What You Should Know

  • This is a temporary role that will last from June 1st - July 19th. The schedule is anticipated to be approximately 38-40 hours per week. A schedule will be provided in advance. Each RS will receive 2 days off per week after the first week of training.
  • This role must pass University required background check.
  • This position will attend a required week long orientation before student arrival, beginning June 1st and will commit to spending the full 7 weeks on CU Boulder campus.

What We Can Offer

The hourly range for this position is $22-$25.48.

  • Have experience in youth work (advising or mentoring students).
  • Have an educational/lived experience that reflects that of CUUB students.
