Job Summary

This position will support the Division of Student Affairs and a variety of Student Affairs departments by crafting short form videos and high-quality content that engages our student audience and CU Boulder community. Content creation will cover a wide range of topics including student life, health and wellness, getting involved and leadership and development across multiple social media platforms.

This position will work closely with the social media manager to develop and implement social content strategies, tactics, and solutions in collaboration with other team members. This includes capturing content, determining design composition and audio and visual flow to tell an engaging story. We’re looking for someone who can create rapid content that is timely and relevant to the student experience. Additional responsibilities include storyboarding, editing, motion graphics and availability to attend some evening and weekend events to capture video content as needed. 

The video and social content creator ensures that all content is professional, compelling, accurate, audience appropriate and conforms to AP and university branding and style guidelines. Staff in this role need to be able to think about various audiences, accessibility, and inclusivity to ensure that content is appropriate and relevant. This position requires excellent critical thinking, bringing creative ideas to the table, eagerness to seek out and adapt to social media trends and an innovative spirit and willingness to try new things.

Who We Are

Student Affairs Communication and Marketing supports the Division of Student Affairs with essential communication and marketing needs. We collaborate with departments to develop and implement communication plans and tactics. In our partnerships, we work to create materials that educate, engage and positively impact the CU Boulder community. To ensure goals are being met, we routinely evaluate effectiveness and adapt tactics. We strive to provide communication that's timely to where students are at in their academic journey. Our team works closely with Strategic Relations and other campus partners to ensure integrated campus-wide marketing and communications. 

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Communication and Marketing:
  • Coordinate and implement multiple communication and marketing campaigns through a variety of channels including email, social media, digital, print and web platforms.
  • Ensure that all media platforms are fully utilized and coordinated with larger division campaigns by working collaboratively with other members of the Student Affairs Communication team. 
  • Create, design, review and deploy communication tactics for a variety of campaigns. 
  • Assesses communications for effectiveness and engagement.
  • Understand the relationship between design, content, and user experience and therefore adapts content as needed for each medium and audience.
  • Review and edit thoroughly all communication pieces at each phase of the creation and deployment process.
  • Identify appropriate uses for videos and photos in the overarching communication plan.
  • Maintain strong brand identity across all communication and marketing materials. 
Communication Liaison:
  • Work with departments within the Division of Student Affairs and campus partners to develop and implement materials consistent with central initiatives and branding.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities including changes in regulations, technology, and standard methodologies.
  • Attend Student Affairs Communicators meetings regularly to provide project updates and to stay educated on other division priorities and projects.

This role is currently working in a hybrid style work environment.

What We Can Offer

  • Salary range is $48,000 - $50,000. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs guidelines.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 1-3 years of experience creating digital/video content for social media marketing campaigns.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.

What You Will Need

  • Outstanding storytelling, content creation, editing and motion graphic skills.
  • Experience creating short form videos for social media outlets, using Adobe Rush, Premiere Pro, iMovie, or other in-app video editing services.
  • Comfortable shooting with both an iPhone and DSLR cameras.
  • Proficient in the world of social and digital media trends, with a keen eye on what’s relevant and an understanding of new tools that are being used. 
  • Familiar with TikTok and Instagram Reels and emerging video trends.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in communications, digital media, film, marketing, advertising, journalism, or closely related field.
  • Sophisticated knowledge in Adobe Rush, Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects, Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Experience with common editing techniques and advanced storytelling.
  • Knowledge or experience with graphic design, branding and maintaining a visual identity.
  • Ability to manage and develop student employees.
